Their govornment killed 19 protesters after a giant crackdown, and the people finally said "fuck this" and defied their oppressors

I commented this below, but in case it gets lost, I'll attach here too, this is not about what main stream media is trying to reframe it as. They tossed their monarchy and decided they'd have a two party system, what could go wrong, the two parties decided to join as a coalition, so only one party, and then went absolutely mad with power enriching themselves and cutting all vital services to and for the people and they were ramping up the evil, by the day. The people said fk that, you're going down, en masse. Not about social media at all. You don't hear what's really going on in places, from the news, they tell you what serves their billionaire owners agenda.

Good for them. I hope the US is going to have its fight back against corrupt politicians moment soon.

Metal AF. There is something stirring in this video for me, something about the greek/roman style columns (that in my mind represent democracy) framing the inferno. It speaks a lot to the state of democracies across the world atm and the fractured nature of our collective consciousness.

I think we're in a complacent situation and just trying to survive. They're instilling fear with ICE bullshit, it's going to take a bit more before it happens hear, even if there was another Boston massacre.

The protests began in opposition to a ban on more than two dozen social media platforms that was imposed last week, but they have since expanded to include general frustration with corruption.

Okay, so banning social media makes people torch the parliament and their corrupt politicians homes. Good to know, that this is what it takes.

Banning social media put people in the street. It was the murder of protesters that lit the torch.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 60 points 2 months ago

Cops killed 19 protesters protesting the ban. That's actually what it takes....

[–] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 29 points 2 months ago

No that's not at all why they were protesting, that's just only what the media is reframing it as. They tossed their monarchy and decided they'd have a two party system, what could go wrong, the two parties decided to join as a coalition, so only one party, and then went absolutely mad with power enriching themselves and cutting all vital services to and for the people and they were ramping up the evil, by the day. They banned social media so they protested in person and got shot. That's why.

[–] PhilipTheBucket@piefed.social 34 points 2 months ago

"This is forbidden! It is illegal for you to do this!"

"Hey remember when you shot those kids?"

"Yeah but that was fine tho"

Much respect and admiration to the people of Nepal.

In Germany, the Nazis used such an event to gain power.

Luckily, this will probably not happen here...

But why not setting the president palace on fire instead of the parliament?

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It was a false flag event. I.e., faked by the Nazis.

[–] lemmydividebyzero@reddthat.com 3 points 2 months ago

There are theories about who caused it and this is one of them.

See the long text "Der Streit über die Täterschaft" here: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichstagsbrand

There is no final proof for any of them.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago

Oh wow. I'd heard they set fire to Parliament, I didn't realise they'd destroyed the building entirely.

Anyone seeing this from Nepal, please leave reddit. It's being brigaded by reactionaries and fake news to create chaos.
