This is of course an appeal to vote for better Democrats in primaries. Turnout makes a huge difference, since most people don't vote in primaries

The decision is a major victory for Republicans, wiping away a measure approved by voters to allow Democrats to gain as many as four House seats in the midterms.

The Republicans are about to gerrymander all the black representatives out of the South, so it's going to be a very uphill effort for Democrats to win a majority int he House, even if 60% of Americans vote for Democrats.

the devices can also kill or injure people, pets and endangered species. In one 2017 incident that gained national notoriety, the 14-year-old Canyon Mansfield and his dog were sprayed by a cyanide bomb near their Idaho home. The dog, Kasey, collapsed and died. Video of the whole thing is here

  • Only the billionaire would vote for the billionaire tax initiative.
  • Two words said so much more. [about Bianco lecturing Porter, the one woman on stage, about how to be a mother]
  • In Los Angeles, housing anxieties take center stage.
  • Villaraigosa could play spoiler.

In particular, the study says:

when considering deforestation, we find a near system-wide transition of the Amazon forest (62−77% of the area) under the combination of a lower threshold range of global warming of 1.5–1.9 °C and deforestation of 22–28%

The press-release is rather a bit clearer about it than the NYT

Around two-thirds of the Amazon rainforest could shift into degraded forest or savannah-like ecosystems at 1.5-1.9°C of global warming if deforestation increases to roughly 22-28 percent of the Amazon
