As the global reputation of US brands slips, some US firms are turning to unusual marketing strategies. Coca-Cola, for instance, is now promoting itself as a "German product."

Made is doing a lot of heavy lifting in a mass produced beverage.

[โ€“] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Jana pressed the buttons on the bottling machine.

[โ€“] Zwiebel@feddit.org 10 points 1 month ago

I did that too once at McDonalds

Or its little brother "Made for" - rarer but much higher lifting capacity.

this is such a pathetic tactic by a multi million company.

Multi MILLION? Let me quote Austin Powers:

Number Two: Don't you think we should ask for more than a million dollars? A million dollars isn't exactly a lot of money these days. Virtucon alone makes over 9 billion dollars a year!

Dr. Evil: Really? That's a lot of money.

Coca cola is at 50 billion.

daaaaaamn, thats a lot of multi :)

Doesn't Germany have a lot of small soda producers? I remember being gifted locally made Spezi while I was over there and it was amazing.

People usually talk a lot about Fritz Cola, I haven't personally tasted it though.

[โ€“] squirrel@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 1 month ago

It's way better than Coca Cola

[โ€“] Kaiserschmarrn@feddit.org 5 points 1 month ago

I fucking love Fritz Kola. But a lot of people I know don't really like it.

[โ€“] cubism_pitta@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Was just in Germany a couple of days ago.

Ordered a Coke was asked โ€œCoke or Coke Zeroโ€ was served a local cola.

Wasnโ€™t mad it was a good soda, I was just ordering soda the way I am used to :)

[โ€“] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes, but Coca Cola and Pepsi are pretty dominant.

[โ€“] Zwiebel@feddit.org 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Coca Cola yes but who tf drinks Pepsi

[โ€“] DmMacniel@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

I always preferred Pepsi over Coca Cola as it wasn't so gosh damn sweet (I now drink fritz or afri cola though)

[โ€“] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Secret Sprite drinkers.

I drink neither but pepsi is just cocacola with some battery acid.

The last time that happened they invented ..... Fanta

Coca-Cola has a history of always changing their brand because of fascism.

[โ€“] halfapage@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

love how it's just a lazy ad template for all non-US countries

you would think having a multi billion corporation would enable you to do some fancy creative stuff customized to local culture and whatnot, but nah

also amazing how they sort of use workers as meat shields for consumers to feel guilty about

Please let us continue to turn natural resources into microplastic pollution and diabetes.

Coca-Cola appears to run campaigns similar to Germany's across Europe, like in France where I live.

[โ€“] SebaDC@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 month ago

Coca-Cola can go suck an egg.

[โ€“] yucandu@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Think of Jana

Okay, Jana, enjoy your employment insurance in a country that allows you to survive companies going out of business.

I haven't touched any American soda since 51st state threats, honestly really disappointed all our restaurants still serve Pepsi or Coke products.

Not sure if Canadians are hurting their sales enough to try that here yet.

[โ€“] Sunshine@piefed.ca 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Jarritos is owned by an American company too.

[โ€“] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah that one is out of Texas I see.

Alts with zero USA involvement from what I can tell, correct me if I'm wrong:

Canada: Big 8, Like Cola, Bubble Up, Red Racer, Philips Soda, Jones Soda.

Out of those I'm only aware of Jones and Philips personally. I'll need to look for the others.

Europeans (probably not every country I imagine):

Irn-Bru, Vinto, Fritz-Cola, Almdudler, Rivella, Sinalco, Ubuntu Cola, Mecca Cola, Barr's Flavours, San Pellegrino, Orangina.

Some of these are in Canada too, dunno about the reverse! I buy San Pellegrino pretty frequently and know of Rivella.

I encourage any cola drinkers to try Palestine Cola https://www.palestinedrinksshop.com/

100% of the profits go to communities in Palestine. It's the least we can do during a genocide.

[โ€“] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Ha ha makes me remember we had Cuba Cola when I was a kid (Sweden).

[โ€“] expatriado@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Who the fuck is still drinking Coca-Cola? Literally the only person I know who ever drank it habitually was my dad, and he stopped some years ago.

[โ€“] RedSnt@feddit.dk 3 points 1 month ago

As long as they're not replacing ingredients, turning it orange and calling it fanta

[โ€“] muad_dibber@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Fanta: first as tragedy, then as farce
