How do you know when someone is a vegan?

Don't worry, they'll tell you.

[-] tomi000@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Funny, but just as untrue and offensive as OPs meme. I dont understand how people dont see that and keep being offended while offending 10x harder.

[-] random_character_a@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah. First clue was that the images were reversed

[-] iiGxC@slrpnk.net -4 points 1 month ago

Good work detective, I know that was a tough case but you really stepped up to uncover the truth

Keto was originally intended for children suffering from epilepsy, and was quite effective for it:

The ketogenic diet is effective in substantially decreasing difficult-to-control seizures and can successfully be administered in a wide variety of settings. source

More recently it has been adopted as a weight loss tool, but it doesn’t seem perfect and especially there seems to be no reason to participate for more than a few months (when a more wholesome diet intended for long term sustenance of fitness might be adopted):

Ketogenic low-carbohydrate diets have increased in popularity over recent years, but the degree of carbohydrate restriction required to achieve ketosis remains unclear. In general, studies have shown greater weight loss at 3–6 months with KLC diets compared with LF diets, however this difference is no longer apparent at 12 months. source

That said, this meme participates in a series of ad hominem attacks about the character of those participating in keto dieting which are broadly inaccurate and clearly intended to effect rage in its audience, which explains the poor reception of the post. I would suggest better rhetorical methods than exhibited here to those interested in furthering the adoption of vegan diets.

You can shitpost about anything, but not their sacred right to eat industrial meat.

Good job op.

[-] MilitantVegan@lemmy.world -2 points 1 month ago

What I've been finding so far about lemmy is that if I post something vegan that puts all the blame on corporations, the upvotes come rolling in. But anything else is either closer to a 1:1 ratio, or downvote abyss.

[-] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Those upvotes must really put the dopamine in your brain. Considering they're worthless on the fediverse

[-] Lauchmelder@feddit.de 2 points 1 month ago

perhaps it's because you're insulting the very people you're trying to convert to your cause. work on your rhetoric and watch your success rate skyrocket

[-] CluckN@lemmy.world -3 points 1 month ago

lol this “us vs them” mentality is what keeps the meat industry strong. If Vegan’s weren’t insufferable the entire meat industry would’ve died in ‘07.

[-] riodoro1@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Im sure it would buddy.

[-] tomi000@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Im pretty sure you yourself know how untrue that is. People who eat meat do so mainly out of habit. Habits get engraved in your personality in a way that your ego will defend them to the death. If anyone or anything tries to change or question your habits, your ego interprets that as a personal attack.

Its not really their fault, they have all the necessary information but cant overcome the habit hurdle. It depends strongly on your surroundings and how open you are to new things. It is not in our nature to question things that 'have always worked this way'.

I wandered into a /c/vegancirclejerk post in my feed yesterday https://lemmy.world/post/15870764 That was fun and informative, in a way.

They really, really don't like you pointing out that they could just eat what they want and nobody would care, they just have to make it their public identity because they get off on being oppressed.

Funniest bit is one of the mods got fussy and deleted all my comments and banned me- then the other mod removed them as mod. Hard to maintain solidarity in a group when its built entirely on the need to be oppressed. Eventually your own team becomes your oppressor.

I'm confused, is this about vegans or meat eaters?

[-] stanleytweedle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

It was about 'circlejerking' about your dietary preference.

[-] tomi000@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Meat eaters obviously

[-] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.de 5 points 1 month ago

Lol you do realise that people can just see the mod log and look at the bullshit comments of yours that got removed yeah?

[-] stanleytweedle@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah I almost posted a screenshot of them but figured that might be against the rules.

But the removals got the mod removed so you have to wonder if my comments really deserved to be removed or if some prissy vegan mod just got triggered by some reasonable points I made about 'circlejerking' your dietary preferences they just didn't want to hear.

[-] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.de 1 points 1 month ago

Yes your antagonistic, bullshit comments definitely warranted removal.

[-] stanleytweedle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Then you should probably go fuss at that other mod for removing the guy that removed them. Or maybe you're a lot like the mod that got removed. Makes you think... well- it might if you weren't too angry at an internet stranger to be very self-aware right now.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 6 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure you can do vegan keto, it's literally just eating even more beans than normal

[-] MilitantVegan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

There is a vegan keto, and at least one study has found it to not have the same harms that other variants of keto has. The problem there is that it's an extremely restrictive diet, so good luck to anyone trying to stick to that.

Aside from the one legitimate use it has - alleviating seizure symptoms - keto is just plain a diet that makes no sense for humans whatsoever.
