Seriously, what is the business justification for that vehicle?

Short for utility vehicle. Basically anything with a cabin, and some sort of bed or tray at the back.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Austrian. A UTE is sedan frame with a truck bed on the back. This is not a UTE. It’s a truck.

[–] nickiam2@aussie.zone 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Austrian? I think you mean Australian there mate! Trucks are much heavier, UTEs are what you Yankees call "trucks". It's a UTE because it's a utility vehicle and used by tradies and farmers and the like.

Thanks, ditch buddy! The rest of the world has backwards terminology.

[–] takeda@kbin.social 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Maybe some kind of write-off that only creative accountants know about?

[–] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Any accountant will tell you that most businesses can't write off tax against a normal car, as it's not a work vehicle, so they buy pickups because vans are impractical for normal use

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It works different in NZ.

[–] mvirts@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Lotta paper to haul. Does all calculations long form, fills all forms by hand, and bills at $100/hr

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

he has really big handwriting too. the papers stack up fast

I used to do freelancing and used a tax accountant because it was multi-state work. I remember when I asked if I had to get him all the physical paperwork and he said, "No dude. Just provide me a PDF".

I think I'm too rightside-up to understand this Aussie meme

[–] Zane@aussie.zone 14 points 1 year ago

Kiwis are seething

[–] evanuggetpi@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago

This is, sadly, all too common in NZ.

[–] andyMFK@reddthat.com 4 points 1 year ago

Didn't notice the .nz domain name I see

[–] Decoy321@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

There is a purpose. It let's us know they're overcompensating for small penises.

[–] Jimbo@yiffit.net 4 points 1 year ago

I saw this picture and somehow instantly knew it was in New Zealand

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Isn’t that a truck, not a UTE?

[–] evanuggetpi@lemmy.nz 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's what they're called in NZ/Australia

[–] schnokobaer@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

I always thought a Ute was specifically a normal sized, non-offroad car but with a bed rather than a boot with a lid.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

The only thing we call a "truck" here is something you need a special licence endorsement to drive.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a lot of misunderstood masculinity out there.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's a tax thing, nothing to do with genitals.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The accounting firm gets a bigger tax break by buying a pickup truck rather than a sadan or a minivan?

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

From my understanding, a four door pickup is considered a "trade vehicle", same as a cargo van, while a car is a different classification for FBT.

Plus, utes can haul. The Ranger can carry almost a tonne in the bed, and tow 3.5t.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How often do accountants haul a ton and tow 3.5? Not often.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This guy probably does it every weekend.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Probably. Ok if he's not claiming it on taxes. Tax payers should not be paying for his personal haulin'.

[–] bluetardis@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe growing his ASSets

[–] Streptember@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Only thing I can figure is to have more space for that ad.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

And that's why you're not an accountant.

[–] thorbot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ute Ute Ooteeney!

I don't know your tax laws, sorry. Ours say "my balls are attached to the bumper"

[–] blazera@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

More record heatwaves next summer

[–] Tb0n3@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Seeing as he's got a tow ball he probably has fun on the weekends.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

This is almost certainly a toy hauler of some description.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Farms need accountants too, it also snows a lot on the south island in NZ so wanting a vehicle with 4 wheel drive isnt unreasonable.

But realistically the business justification for that vehicle is that I own a business and need a vehicle. You can have "the company Lambo" if you make enough money.
