I will never understand how one can aquire such an insatiable taste for another man's boots

Someone asked, “Why do some British people not like Trump?” An articulate and witty writer wrote the following response: “A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Obama possessd. So, the stark contrast does throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief. Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty, or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I do not say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it is a fact. He does not even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty. Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he does not just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and automatic nastiness. There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance, or depth. It is all surface. Some might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we do not. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He is not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He is more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege. And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully and racist. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down. So, the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a few of us– of look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that: You do not need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man. This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty hard to miss. After all, it is impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump. And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumps of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created? If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.

That's President Pedophile to you!

We don't want people to forget that we elected a pedophile.

Twice.

[–] Colonel_Panic_@eviltoast.org 3 points 6 days ago

Pedophile in Chief.

[–] NotAnOtter@lemmus.org 13 points 6 days ago

"Overeducated" is quite the pejorative.

Especially in the context of critiquing grammar.

[–] YragNitram1956@feddit.uk 8 points 5 days ago

‘The most uneducated buffoon in history stands at a podium, bloated with self-importance, lips pursed like a carnival barker ready to sell turd milk to the unsuspecting. He grins a grotesque smirk stretched across his face as he scrawls his name onto a hollow decree, a sham celebration of the dismantling of knowledge itself. The Department of Education falls, not with a bang, but with wheezing verbs, suffocated under the weight of his own staggering ignorance. Surrounding him are the usual suspects: cowards in expensive suits, servile sycophants clapping like trained seals, and racist opportunistic ghouls picking clean the bones of democracy. Liars, fools, and thieves all parasites fattening themselves on the hardships of the many. They stand in rigid formation, dead-eyed and soulless, their allegiance sworn not to country, not to principle, but to power, and the dark, festering rot that clings to it. And there he is the convicted wrong, the living embodiment of septic tank spew, his voice a noxious fog of grift and grievance. He lectures the world on right and wrong, irony clawing at the walls, desperate to escape the grotesque theatre of his moral void. The stomach turns, the air curdles, and for a moment, history itself recoils watching, in horror, as the great American experiment teeters on the precipice, led by a man who couldn't spell "precipice" if his life depended on it.’

I don't think I've ever heard anyone other than the dumbest of the dumb use the term "overeducated".

And I don't call him Trump. I call him Felon. Or Rapist. Or Pedophile. Or Traitor. When I'm feeling particularly spicy I call him Felon Rapist Pedo Traitor.

From the Biden is not my President crowd. Get bent.

[–] zoltanshields@lemmy.zip 11 points 6 days ago

I don't remember any such reverence for Obama either.

[–] angstylittlecatboy@reddthat.com 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Calling the president by his last name without the title isn't even an insult. It was uncontroversial to do it for Obama.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (4 children)

You will use his full title, Obama, Deporter-in-Chief, Slayer of Ambulances, Drinker of Flint Water, Savior of Banks, Patron-Saint of Drones.

[–] Kurtismayfield@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

[–] YragNitram1956@feddit.uk 4 points 5 days ago

Your country?

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 11 points 6 days ago

Best I can do is call him the Molester in Chief.

[–] TheHotze@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Love him or hate him, he is the president of the UnitedStates... so we can call the grifter in chief whatever names we please. And he has burned any respect that office once held on its own.

[–] rollerbang@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I literally read that "grinder in chief".

NRK (Norwegian public broadcaster) started using AI to live translate on radio, and it keeps calling Trump "promp" which means "fart".

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 6 days ago

Trump means fart in English as well.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)
