I feel like I fell into some alternate universe. We elected an entire evil clown college to run the government and MTG is actually making sense.

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She’s just an opportunist who saw the winds change and decided to get out while the getting was good. She’s probably positioning herself now to run as the Republican candidate in 2028 and will campaign on a platform of “disillusionment” with the current regime. There’s already a split, not a big enough one, but I think she wants to be the head of it.

[–] maxthemummer@lemmus.org 10 points 2 days ago

Yes, and the same money that backed Trump will back her and the net results will be the same.

[–] nemith@programming.dev 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If there was only someone inside the system who could have actually had some change instead of sucking on the same teet she is now bashing. Fuck MTG

[–] bertlewirth@lemy.lol 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

she quit either the DAY she got her pension, or slightly after. She's a reprehensible person. Fuck MTG

She stood around while trump and co threatened many other families, then when her family gets threatened? "oh, woe is me!"

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

A lot of people talking about how this is just the latest step in the grift, but really, I've never thought she was a grifter.

Narrow-minded bigot, yes. Dumb as a bag of hammers, sure. Utterly hoodwinked by the right-wing outrage media, definitely. But she always seemed like she really believed in it. She thought she could achieve her worldview by cozying up to Trump. Even after she realized he was all smoke and mirrors, she still tried to make it work because she thought she could get it if she just tried a little harder; right up until she realized that she had been usurped in the cult.

Which honestly almost makes it worse, when you think about it. But at least this way she's peeling off some more of the MAGA faithful.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's amazing that she can come full circle on so many issues and still not have the self awareness to understand how the flaws in conservative reasoning which get you trump are the same ones which condition her thoughts on abortion and the various other right wing causes she still supports. It's like a broiler chicken learning that she exists to be mechanically butchered and unceremoniously consumed by malevolent apes, and then demanding a different color cage.

Stop trying to follow the logic here, because that never occurred to her when drafting this post. This is all political kabuki. She can see clear as day that Trump's cohort are burning through what little political power they have remaining and will soon be ousted, and she's positioning herself as the sane conservative candidate by distancing herself from their most extreme decisions/policies. When the dust clears she'll have a head start campaigning for whatever office she wants.

Make no mistake, she's a true believer in all the shit that got us to this fucked up situation we find ourselves in. The first part of her post is just the "normal" kind of extremism that seems blase compared to the firehose of daily scandals coming from the WH.

So you're saying that you were a complete asshole on purpose and not because you're an idiot? Interesting.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

She’s still an asshole. She’s fine with all the other stuff happening just like all the rest of the Republicans.

People in cages? Killing people on boats? Dismantling the government? Installing a dictator?

Fine.

Me paying more for groceries and gas because war?

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

[–] spencerwi@feddit.org 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think she actually fell deep into Pizzagate, maybe due to actual concern about a pedophile ring, heard about the Epstein files, made it her whole thing, and then when Trump buried them so hard it finally actually turned her a little bit. Then she got death threats from Trump supporters for even slightly criticizing him, and that turned her hesitance into full-on rage.

For better or worse, her whole thing is being some sort of populist crusader against the shadowy cabal of pedophiles. She's just figured out that Trump is part of that shadowy cabal. It's still "me taking on the hidden secret conspiracy" as her whole thing.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, I suspect that she's fundamentally a true believer in what she says, and I think that's why her party finds her hard to work with. She's headstrong, sincere, bigoted, insane, and pretty gullible. She seems to have grown disillusioned once she realized a lot of politicians on her side aren't like her.

What she is saying and the fact she's saying it publicly is actually very important. She's showing others who follow(ed) Trump uncritically that it's possible to hold conservative values and still call out the egregious actions of the Trump administration and the performative propaganda they use to justify them. The fact that she was part of the problem makes her actions even more important.

"Even a broken Hitler is right twice a day." /s

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

I'm of the opinion that a broken Hitler needs to be kicked some more.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 161 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (7 children)

I really hate her and don't want her as a representative. That having been said, she is a little more like what their party should be. If we are gonna stick with this piece of shit two-party system, then the party platform should be different solutions to what we agree are the problems. I don't understand how the fuck we got to a point where everybody is struggling to make ends meets, and one party is saying that it's difficult to make ends meet and we need to regulate businesses better while improving social safety nets for the people; the other party says that the problem is that trans people and brown people exist so the solution is to just erase them. And 1/3 of the country is just like "idk man, I just live here, I'm not interested in politics." Idk how the country survives as a democratic republic after this. Forget recovering from this.

Vote. Prove me wrong. Please.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

and one party is saying that it's difficult to make ends meet and we need to regulate businesses better while improving social safety nets for the people;

*One wing of one party. The centrists absolutely aren't saying this.

I thought the republicans were acknowledging that the cost of living is higher, but blaming it on immigrants

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 days ago (5 children)

It depends on who you ask.
Trump claims that prices aren't actually that high (lie) and also that they're lower than under Biden (lie) and also that the prices are worth it to keep a nuke out of Iran's hands (lie because he's the one who terminated the deal in his first term that was doing exactly that).
Vance claims that the racist scapegoating of brown immigrants was him misspeaking (lie) and that he'll aim to do better (lie because he immediately did it some more right after that).
Others have lied that "illegal" (undocumented) immigrants are siphoning things like welfare, food stamps, and other assistance programs from Americans. But you need a social security number to claim those things, which is how you know it's a fucking lie. They'll also lie about them stealing good jobs, but the jobs they're working are the shitty jobs, and them being underpaid is both something that their employers are doing to exploit vulnerable people and also how prices on things like produce and textiles has been so relatively cheap until now, since they've chased so much of the labor force out.

I don't understand any argument for how immigrants could be causing higher prices. It would only make sense if we were seeing a scarcity, but the only one I can think of off the top of my head is petroleum products, caused by this stupid illegal war, which hasn't even begun to cause the insane high prices on everything else yet due to the shipping industries depending so heavily on diesel. It will really take off right after the blue wave, and chuds will blame dems despite not even being sworn in yet. It's as predictable as the scary "caravan" heading to the border right before the election.

Her sudden change of heart is nothing more than an effort by her to escape the justice she has coming for helping all this treason get moving. Her former allies have abandoned her. She is not capable of shame for her actions. Magat marge is the same gormless piece of shit as she ever was and would still be waving the magat cult banner if she was still welcome there. She can have redemption when she dies for it. Until then, she should keep her worthless words inside to spare us the foul wind that carries them.

[–] Entertainmeonly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 89 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I hate that I'm reading this and agreeing. This woman is a fucking monster but i sure can't argue with these points.

[–] thatOneGuy@aussie.zone 91 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You’re not agreeing with her, she’s agreeing with you - as it is her world view that’s changed, while yours has remained consistent.

"...pro abortion..."

She's a grifter through and through. Just trying on a new "look"

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

DHS raids MTG's house in 3...2...

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 36 points 2 days ago

Shut the fuck up, Marge, you’re one of the people that enabled this shit.

Something about a broken clock. Just because they can make a good point doesn't mean they aren't shit tier people.

I see Lemmy is still doing this MTG image rehabilitation. Fucking hell.

Don't believe her bullshit. She helped them with literally everything she is now claiming to oppose. Its part of the strategy, her "feud" with MAGA is another grift. This is how they sway centrists to fascism, by having one mouthpiece suddenly become "reasonable" and ease moderates into the pool when they're too afraid to cannonball into the deep end.

Ah the broken clock principle.

[–] iuseasahibtw@ani.social 4 points 2 days ago

This is levels of bizzaro world that only anime or drugs can induce. Wtf is going on? Whatever it is, I love it

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 9 points 2 days ago

Yeah because she wasn't complicit in any of it.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 40 points 3 days ago (6 children)

I will never approve of the left whitewashing this Nazi.

I am so sick of people saying, “sure, she hates the Jews and the Blacks, but she's one of the good fascists if you just look past her record.”

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 45 points 3 days ago

I don't see the left whitewashing her. Every time she does stuff like this I only see people telling her to fuck off.

[–] Feidry@sh.itjust.works 34 points 3 days ago

She's not one of the good ones, not even close. But seeing her say shit like this is WILD! I hated her when she was in office, and don't much care for her now but I fully support her attempting to speak truth to power. You can hate someone and still agree on some things.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 days ago

Nobody's whitewashing her. This post just shows that even that nut sees through the bullshit.

Where the fuck was this MTG when she was in office?

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 22 points 3 days ago

Suppressed by the desire to conform to the MAGA party line.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago

I agree with her, but she said everything but the fact that Trump is trying to illegally silence and deport a political enemy. That's the extremely dangerous thing that's currently happening.

[–] mefisdo_dot_info@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

Margarine Tallow Grease, if you are for the 2A, you know what to do

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 5 points 2 days ago

I'll never understand why people give the shittiest people alive attention like this. MTG is a poser, nothing she says is worth consideration.

Instead, let's share what people who are fighting for justice are saying.

[–] jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Lady, you had the opportunity to do the right thing while you were in office. Instead, you fully enabled Cheetolini & Co. knowing full well what was happening, only to run away as soon as they -- very predictably -- turned on you.
