Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

We already had overly corporate and conservative friendly media, back in the 80s.

But that wasn't enough for the cons; they had to make hate radio (thanks Ronnie Raygun! When you look around at how fucked this country is, so many things tie back to that grinning idiot) and Faux.

Having Faux, hate radio, and sites like Breitbart and a billion hateful douchebros on the manosphere was not enough either, they had to cancel Colbert and take over CBS.

Same for CNN, Paramount, Warner Brothers...

Why, it's almost like the conservatives hate free speech and the actual marketplace of ideas and all the accusations of them being fascist were true....

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

This is the Nazi strategy. The Nazis had full control of all media in Germany including doing cutting edge stuff like television even.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Republicans would kill for someone half as talented as Leni Riefenstahl

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Facts, Republicans are all just lazy fat disgusting Görings all the way down

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 20 points 14 hours ago

The article frames her as an "anti woke crusader" but if you look at her actual life history its 5x5 straight down the middle zionism from an early age. Anti-woke is just the current most optimal mechanism for that, but she used to call herself a centrist too.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bari_Weiss

Not anti woke-- pro zionist. Misdirection around her motivations is bad journalism and a betrayal. Get it right, TNR. Grow some effing balls to call out pro israel bias or get out of the media business.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 94 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Thanks, I'll add this to the mountain of reasons I already hate her for being the fascist-supporting cancerous sellout scum she is.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 10 points 14 hours ago

Fuck her and Jan Crawford

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2026/oct/18/cbs-reporter-apologizes-abdul-el-sayed-post

This is bullshit, a right wing punk "Tommy" goes on and asks Abdul to renounce the Muslim Brotherhood. Abdul does but goes deeper into the racism in that question and the constitution and standing up for it. Crawford deleted her post claiming that Abdul quietly denounced them and that you could barely hear it over his other stuff. Which if you WATCHED it was ALL about this point, fuck her "spinning".

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

He took no time to say he denounces it, too. It's only "quiet" in the sense that he won the whole room over, tons of clapping, by the end of his conversation with Tommy, lol.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 53 points 19 hours ago (15 children)

Doesn't she claim to be a centrist democrat?

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 79 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Well Tim Pool also claims to be a centrist and Kim Jong Un also claims to be the leader of a Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

When a white person claims to be a centrist, the safest assumption is that they are EXTREMELY right wing.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 22 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

The Nazis claimed to be socialists so the farmers and working class supported them, and when they took power the actual socialists were among the first to be slaughtered. Crazy how it just keeps happening that fascists act like they’re inclusive, progressive but in fact align with the bigots, corporate class and wealthy.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 40 points 19 hours ago

Centrist = I'm not comfortable telling you I'm a fascist.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 41 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

UK-based Palestinian-Lebanese researcher Elia Ayoub has defined the term [reactionary centrists] as "centrists who often validate perceived concerns of the right and far right while blaming the left for the failures of centrist politics... those who are convinced that the way to do politics is to effectively treat the far right as ‘the people’, the default, the silent majority. They don’t view themselves as right wingers, but act as though right wing politics are always more popular with ‘the people.’"

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 1 points 10 minutes ago* (last edited 10 minutes ago)

That's just another way of saying they're right wingers who lie about it.

[–] robomuffin79@lemmy.world 20 points 18 hours ago

100%. This explains why the Overton window of political thought in the West has moved so much to the right. In the UK, far right, black shirted masked agitators are referred to by the centrist Labour Party as people with ‘legitimate concerns’

Doesn’t she claim to be a centrist democrat?

So do male trump voters that are single after they keep getting rejected romantically when they reveal they're MAGA.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Many women don't want to involve themselves with men who reject the idea of their bodily autonomy, possibly even the right to vote, or have a bank account or a credit card or equal pay, or a no-fault divorce.

The amount of ink spilled on that, even to the point of a moral panic ("women don't even want to date Republicans any more, how is that even fair?"), was and is just so crazy to me.

The idea of Popper's Paradox of tolerance seems to have been so thoroughly rejected by the reactionary centrists gnashing their teeth and rending their garments over this that they seem to believe women should honor the Tone Police on their "civility" nonsense that they should literally sleep with their enemies.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

this is why the right is mulling over a push to take womens votes away. Womens votes are a sleeping giant. They were merely somewhat angry but resigned/scared for a lot of their lives, but now they are really effing angry all the time, and not just at republicans. They are also now increasingly just as angry at idiot centrist dems as they are at maga, and its making women in general a risk to the status quo. So maybe the centrist leaders will fail to fight for them as well. Its kind of the centrists whole brand, as they continually lurch rightward year after year.

[–] 00000@reddthat.com 21 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

She says she supports neither party but is a “left of center liberal.” However she doesn’t seem to know what those words mean, and spends most of her time complaining about “wokeness” and how people are mean to Israel. If you’ve got 30 minutes, John Oliver did a thing last year when she took over, predicting this headline https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gieTx_P6INQ

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Key word: Liberal.

Liberal doesn't mean Leftist. If she's left-of-center for the Liberal bloc, she's in the same company with Schumer, Pelosi, or Jeffries. Right-of-center Libs are people like Fetterman.

The Democratic Party these days is just the Republican party but with better messaging for marginalized humans.

We need to collectively learn that Liberal does not mean Leftist.

[–] Aatube@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 25 minutes ago

things is, nearly all liberals call her a conservative.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 9 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Is she even a liberal though? She's a puppet of fascists. I don't see how she's left of center by any measure.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 0 points 3 hours ago

Is she even a liberal though? She's a puppet of fascists.

So a liberal.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago

She acts like the Libs I know.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Anybody that calls themselves centrist or independent immediately has my skepticism. Article below has a quote from an independent vote in TN that made me laugh out loud. A maga independent.

https://wpln.org/post/nashville-voter-turnout-15-times-higher-than-last-midterm-so-far/

Independent voter … wasn’t excited about any of the candidates.

“But being a believer in Christ, I’m going to vote … for representatives that represent my beliefs,” Allen said. “I’ve got to vote for people that are going to uphold our security … We have an administration in D.C. right now that’s actually looking after those interests.”

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

Don't even get me started on the whole "independent" voter bullshit.

[–] maya_s_trojan@piefed.blahaj.zone 10 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (3 children)

Here in Washington state, "Independent" has always been code for "Republican but that's not as popular in this state so covering it with Independent"

Their policies are somehow almost always lockstep with the Republican party.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2019/03/14/political-independents-who-they-are-what-they-think/

I mean yeah, it's just the whole independents aren't really independents thing.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Wheras the centrist dems are not?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

Yep. Very often an "independent" is just a reactionary centrist, or in other words, someone who punches left while talking about "both sides", spouts conservative talking points, and votes Republicans.

[–] criscodisco@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

Do you think “independent” voter is synonymous with “swing” or “undecided” voters? Because they are most certainly not always. I’m registered independent but I have very principled leftist stances, but I also vote for harm reduction. I just prefer not to label myself with a political party. That doesn’t mean I vote for grifters like Jill Stein either, or that I have ever, or will ever vote for some pig-ass Republican fascist. The primary is the only chance I get to be excited about a candidate.

We are in bad shape if we think we have to pick a team to be considered an important voice. I can root for a team every single time, that doesn’t mean I have to buy the jersey. If you think for me to root for your team I have to be wearing the same colors as you, you’re not a fan. You only care about being in a group. This is how we get a team that doesn’t care about winning anymore. I don’t just mean winning elections, I mean pushing forth an agenda that helps people, and makes the country better. Make people see we deserve to win.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

And I hope that you have open primaries where you're at then, otherwise I would consider you as a independent, which clearly you're not and neither are most "independents" when you're acting in a obviously partisan fashion as part of the problem. And if you are in a open primary state and voting in the primary, then hey, cool, keep on keeping on with the Independent label then but let's not pretend that you're not acting in a partisan fashion.

When you live in a state where there's no open primary then identifying as a independent then registering to a party and participating in the primary is not treating politics as a sport or buying the jersey as you say. Registering and voting in the primary to get better candidates that deserve to win is that attempt at harm reduction and a much better form of harm reduction than just being a "independent" and hoping that you get a better candidate.

My two cents on the whole Independent sitaution.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

Yep. We discovered a whole bunch of them right after W's fantastic flameout after the Eight Year Debacle.

Weird how that works. I'm bracing for a whole lot more this time around. A bunch of "independents" that probably throw in with whatever bullshit the cons cook up for them as a lifeboat.

Last time the lifeboats were the Teabagger Party.

Burn the lifeboats.

[–] LiarAmongAll@lemmy.zip 4 points 17 hours ago

I'm an independent voter. I just happen to basically always pick Democrats because I'm an informed voter and conservatives have been bat shit for a long ass time now, since well before I could vote.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 14 hours ago
[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

AES is a DSA candidate, so it's not like this is inconsistent behavior for centrist democrats.

[–] Smeagol666@crazypeople.online 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

She's a Netanyahu/Elison toady.

If you don't know the reference, the dumb c*nt had accused someone of being an "Assad toady" on Joe Rogan's show, but didn't know what "toady" meant.

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 11 points 16 hours ago

The viewership should essentially drop to 0. Its the only message they will understand.
