I just do everything with coal. Worked for my gandpapi and it works for me.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 91 points 4 days ago (5 children)

Speak for yourself. I'm a dude and currently smell like oranges and lavender

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 37 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I got a floral smelling perfume that was labelled "for men". Really liked it. But got told a bunch of times "someone's wearing a lovely women's perfume". Maybe I just want to smell like flowers too goddamnit.

[–] UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I just straight up started wearing women's perfume. I really like sweet and powdery smells, as well as vanilla notes. You don't really get stuff like that 'for men', but their stupid labels can't stop me.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

No shade, everyone should enjoy good perfume

[–] protist@retrofed.com 5 points 4 days ago

someone’s wearing a lovely women’s perfume"

I just really have to clarify whether someone actually said these specific words to you

[–] Bo7a@piefed.ca 4 points 4 days ago

Right? I'm a fairly big hairy bikery punkerish type. I am told I look intimidating.

But if you get up close what you're going to smell is blueberries and vanilla!

me spending a bunch of time and money to find and buy unscented stuff:

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

...just make your own at that point and save money? You should not be suffering spending extra on unscented stuff. That's like the easy ass default. You can buy unscented soap in bulk for cheap as hell.

And haven't tried this, but: https://cadryskitchen.com/diy-coconut-oil-deodorant/

Like baking soda, cornstarch, and coconut oil might be all you need for an unscented deodorant

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 13 points 4 days ago (3 children)

sadly i am a stinky/sweaty lady and require antiperspirant, not just deodorant. which I did actually attempt to make myself once. i bought aluminum chlorohydrate powder and then proceeded to not make the time/effort to make an antiperspirant gel/spray out of it for about 5 years before giving up, admitting to myself it was an abandoned project, and tossing it along with components for several other abandoned projects in a pre-move cleanup 😑

fortunately I'm actually good on soap for now between Kirk's Coco Castille unscented and my hipster friend's homemade unscented olive oil soap :]

shampoo and conditioner have been difficult. I like the CeraVe ones I currently use but have to decide if I'm satisfied with their performance enough to justify the price. 😬 though if I do decide that I'll likely get them online for cheaper next time I run out

it is a big dumb scam that unscented things usually cost way more than scented.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's often harder to make "unscented" stuff because it means that none of the ingredients can leave a noticeable odor. Customers expect "no scent" not "smells like baking soda and tallow but not added fragrances".

The gender product grift is laughable. And yet people eat it up. I couldn’t believe the first time I saw these at almost 2x markup of regular unscented baby wipes:

Yes but baby wipes are for ✨ ^baby bottoms^ ✨, while the XL wipes are for ASS.

Never mind the probably small size difference or the fact you can use two.

Ah. Gunpowder.

[–] Vitaly@feddit.uk 10 points 4 days ago

Jet fuel, burst eardrums, and wasteful spending.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 6 points 4 days ago

Jet fuel and hydraulic oil, mostly.

Me wearing lavender mint deodorant:

Tactical body wash with essence of slaughterhouse, IPAs at the axe throwing place, and gym floor mats covered in sweat from the bois.

My deodorant apparently smells of "dry impact" and I guess, the color red...?

As in, they have another deodorant in the shops of the same brand, identical description on the label, except it uses blue as the highlight color and it says "dry active" instead.

Like, those pictures are way too concrete in the meme. I just get to smell like concepts.

Apparently, women are supposed to smell like things while men are supposed to smell like concepts.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago

I'd love to buy a body wash that isn't marketed to people that want to fuck sharks for the government.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Dr. Bronner’s comes in normal scents and works really well as long as you don’t mind it being covered with the ramblings of a madman.

My favorite is peppermint because it feels tingly.

I buy manly vanilla or citrus deodorant because I am a manly man.

[–] ieightpi@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Jokes on you, guys. Your buying the same stuff as women just with "cool" names.

[–] executivechimp@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I realised earlier today that my shower gel has a stylised snail on it. Like...that's a snail, right? Leaving a snail trail of hydration across my body.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

It's a sentient water marble surfing a surf board made of water leaving a trail of hydration in its wake.

Ultra-mega-kickass-sharktooth-rocket-spice smells so good!

What’s the fruit that looks like a cross between an eggplant and a coconut with tauntaun guts?

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Passion fruit?

E: apparently with a space.

Marking for men is marketing for 16-year old:

  • Weber Stealth Kettle
[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

As a woman, I just want to smell like trees with a bit of floral or musky undertones. My taste in scents is my butchest aesthetic
