The older I get, the better it gets. I love being "old" for young people. Happy to be excluded from the prevailing culture, slang/lingo, fashion, trends, etc. Being old is a much much more comfortable place to be for me.

That's really cool. I might take this idea and make a similar thing out of Hama beads for my kid's bedroom wall.

I've only got failed stories to report I'm afraid.

Got a few colleagues at work who I get on well with. We were talking about Catan and they were keen to do a board game night. I called them over to mine for a Saturday evening and asked them for a date that works on everyone's calendar.. Got close to the date and I messaged them on Friday to say I'm "hyped about tomorrow's Catan night". They ended up saying I didn't remind them early enough and now it's difficult for them to come. None showed up. I've invited them again and get a "we'll have a look at our calendars" reply.

There's another guy at work who has a pair of twins. We talk about our kids a lot and I invited them over on a Saturday for a lunch and the kids could all play. Similar cancellation close to the date.

Now there's another guy at work who is junior to me, but just about to be promoted to be a peer and I'm helping him with getting this promotion slot. He's a good guy. I'll try inviting him and his Mrs at some point. Maybe he will show up.

They're all stories about work colleagues. Having a child with additional needs makes it too difficult to go out anywhere else to meet anyone.

In the UK, your bank will cover losses to card fraud for quite a large amount. Your banking app can send instant notifications for every card transaction too.

It would work just as well if the icons were flipped. Would that come across better?

I can see the implicit sexism of implying the girl is the less informed. But I've also got a problem with gate keeping in the community. Someone might say they are focusing on privacy and use incognito chrome, but they're ideologically still on your "team"....they're just a bit behind in their journey and need to find out more about working their way up to making the real meaningful changes. Help em out.

Why is this something widespread? I did chemistry up till A-levels and no one ever asked me to memorise the periodic table and no one gave a shit about committing it to memory. WTF is going on.

I'm using Calibre web to organise books, convert format and download metadata; and then use Kavita to read my books/comics. Works great.

"Thank you for your encouragement and seeing the real me"

I was having trouble with access to my work remote desktop from home. Each time I was told the issue was fixed, I went home and it didn't work again.

So, I used my work PC to use remote desktop on my home server, and use that to remote access the work remote desktop again. Managed to troubleshoot the problem and complete the steps I needed to do on site to get this working.

I'm new to self hosting and am really enjoying having access to my home services. I chuckled at remote desktop inception, but it's been really helpful in solving my problem.

And when I get bored of Hollow Knight, I pick up Gran Turismo 4 and Slay the Spire.

There are lots of good FOSS options.

I would strongly recommend checking this site for the trackers in an app if you're at all concerned about privacy. Links to each app's exodus privacy report is also at the end of the table linked above.

FYI, Nova has been owned by a data mining company for many years and it is worth moving away from even if you think it is good enough now and doesn't need updates.

Last year I identified a workplace poop toilet for myself. It's in the next building over. It's a single toilet. A men's toilet. It's outside a large office in which only women work. So this toilet is always unused. Always clean. Always private. If I (rarely ever) need to poop at work, this is where I go.

Today I was on my way and a work acquaintance intercepted me. Every turn I took, he seemed to be going the same way and was telling me about his mother's fractured hip along the way. I had to walk twice as far beyond where I intended and finally shook him with a bogus excuse for needing to go to some unrelated department; and then had to check around corners while I double back.

I've made it though. Just wanted to update you all about this while I'm on the throne.
