President Donald Trump spoke before an adoring crowd in Tennessee Saturday, telling his fans, "I could say the stupidest things and you'd clap."

He finally said what we were all saying this entire time. I hope those stupid people could understand what their stupidity has cost this nation.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 90 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

He's said in multiple occasions that he loves the poorly educated. Also, smart people don't like him.

Directly calling your supporters stupid and they cheer.

There far too stupud to put that together. They’re like, hate junkies.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 39 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

They’re like, hate junkies.

Hate is the opiate of the masses. Some say it's religion, but that's incorrect. Religion is merely a syringe of choice.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Damn! That’s a good angle! That shit rings so true.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 2 weeks ago

Incapable. Completely, utterly, unable to understand.

I’m not a great lip reader, but that woman in red on the back left looks like she says “That’s true” right after he says it.

He’s making fun of you, Barbara.

TL;DR: Taken out of context, but turd is still a turd.

I am anti trump as much as any sane person but I'm also anti propaganda. Although I know nobody is immune to it, I believe it's important to note that context matters.

context matters If you actually listen to it, he's telling the supporters that he's willing to come have a rally in places he's already won because the people are so supportive and there's a lot of love in the community. He then went on to say that he could come out and say the stupidest thing and they'd still cheer him on.

The context is that he was saying the crowds were supportive and loving, not that they were stupid.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 44 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

The context is that he was saying the crowds were supportive and loving, not that they were stupid.

I don't think that makes it better...

If you clap at stupid things to be supportive, you're still stupid.

Idk, I feel like anybody who cheers for a specific person, no matter what they say, refusing to think critically or consider disagreeing, is a fucking moron. Even if he didn't mean to directly call them stupid, he's still indirectly calling them stupid imo.

The inverse is also true. I don't automatically disagree with everything trump says just because he's a stupid, hateful, narcissistic fascist. I'm glad he discontinued the penny, is against changing clocks for the DST switches twice a year, and the quick rollout of COVID vaccines was a big win. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but it's important to acknowledge good shit even if it comes from a child raping dipshit. I'm not gonna pretend that I like the penny just because an adjudicated rapist dislikes the penny, and I also don't like the pants-shitting fuckface just because we agree that changing clocks is dumb as fuck.

A lot of people liked Kanye's music, and since coming out as an unapologetic Nazi, a lot of those people are not Kanye fans anymore. Those ex-fans adapted in ways that these forever trumpers are incapable of. Because they're fucking stupid.

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Somehow I don't think it's out of context? Someone who is so supportive and loving to the point of ignoring the most blatant stupidity is a damn right dangerous idiot and a fool, and trump very clearly captured that.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not seeing how that's not calling them stupid. Not really out of context at all actually.

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The "context" doesn't make it better. He's literally telling them point blank that he can say whatever he wants and they'll still cheer and love him. I'll never understand people like you who come up with these ridiculous apologetics for Trump.

Stop fucking enabling him.

Yes. As evidenced by the last decade...

[–] thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 2 weeks ago

he knows this from experience

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Mob mentality and groupthink are very powerful. On another note, trump does say the stupidest things.

[–] maxthemummer@lemmus.org 8 points 2 weeks ago

His one promise he's kept!

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Either they're not actually listening to the words or they are listening and it doesn't matter to them.

I can't decide which is worse.

[–] maxthemummer@lemmus.org 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think it's his tone of voice that matters most to his audience, the words go by too quickly for them to process, much like when you speak to a dog.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

I have literally said some of the meanest things (I'm willing to say) my dog using a nice voice. She just wags her tail and comes in for snuggles.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Democracy doesn’t work when the base is this dumb. Need to find another way.

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ironically, this was what the EC was supposed to protect us from.

He DOES say rhe stupidest things, regularly, and they clap.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 17 points 2 weeks ago

Spoiler alert, everything that comes out of your mouth is the stupidest. And I would love it if someone would clap you upside your head.

[–] MasutaHarada@thelemmy.club 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It is fascinating really, what kind of word spouted from trump so his supporter gonna jeer and give middle finger instead?

maybe when he speech about everybody need to be nice to each other ?

[–] johnyreeferseed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They booed him once. It was during COVID, he had spent the last 6 months calling it fake, but at some point for a brief moment he realized it was serious. He told everyone at his rally they needed to get the vaccine. The crowd turned on him quick.

I mean, he already does. They're idiots, they'll clap for anything said by anyone as long as they know someone they irrationally hate will suffer.

[–] savvie@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 weeks ago
[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 weeks ago

You already do and they do, so yeah you're right for once.

Look at the faces of the fucking morons behind him after he says this.

They'll learn absolutely nothing from this, either.

[–] o0evillusion0o@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago

Tell us about those stupid TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES (TM)

[–] Gpennyhigh@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

They really are that dumb

[–] socsa@piefed.social 11 points 2 weeks ago

A rare moment of lucidity

[–] abc@suppo.fi 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

"could"

The actual challenge: is he able to say anything that isn't the stupidest thing?

[–] nforminvasion@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Sometimes I think he hates his supporters more than progressives, leftists, unionists, and bipoc people.

I don't know if that's certifiable, but my gosh does he DESPISE his own people.

[–] Azal@pawb.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

He does. They're not rich, they can't do anything for him other than vote. Trump doesn't involve himself with anyone who can't give him something.

If they were outside his place asking for anything he'd be the first to call security to get the "undesirables" out.

He does and they do

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Just like the time he said "I don't care about you, I only care about your vote."

They are hopeless. Beyond fucking stupid. And what's funny is Dump knows it. He knows no intelligent person likes him--- and that pisses him off because he really wants their respect.

Ha ha loser.

It's true, and it should be real easy to run against him right now. Would take some serious self sabotage to lose

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

Or just some election sabotage. Elons back in the gov in bullshit position to do just that, again.

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 7 points 2 weeks ago

Well he's not wrong on that

The really weird bit comes after that statement, where he starts listing things like "tax cuts" as "common sense", but then just starts babbling a random string of numbers.
