Great movie and an exact prediction of the world in 10 years i think.

I don't know why it flopped. It was a fun movie with good action and scenario. Better than the old one IMHO.

Yeah I thoroughly enjoyed it, and at the same time it gave me nostalgia vibes reminiscent of the 80s / 90s movies like ninja turtles, big trouble in little china, Batman.

This town needs an enema!!

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you gave LA an enema you'd have nothing left but some letters on a hill.

Nah, those are shit, too.

Glen Powell says ‘Running Man’ Flopped After Paramount Laid Off ‘Entire Marketing Department’

It had fun moments but some of the dialogues were written by AI... literally no human talks like that

(I am referring to the initial movie setup with him talking with this wife)

Genuinely curious: was "AI" much of a thing when the script was in process? 🤓

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

sorry I meant "AI" as a generic derogatory term

Ohh, sorry! Pretty baked after a long work week. Also, you're not wrong. 😆

Carry on!

Despite being a reboot and based on the same SK story, the two movies are vastly different and one isn't necessarily better than the other. They also both stray far from the original story, while still getting many of the themes right. It's on a few lists of King's "worst" stories, but I always felt he understood the direction this country was headed and he more or less nailed it with that book.

Piers Anthony lightly touched on similar themes with the Proton side of his Apprentice Adept series, and I've read that there is finally a TV series being made out of that one (which blows my mind given how unfilmable the books always seemed when I read them as a child), but King managed to predict not only American Gladiator, but the current state of the world for the past five years and counting.

How DARE you!

That movie was a lot of nothing. It made almost no impression on me whatsoever.

Yeah, I think it might be because I had such a special place in my heart for the original, nothing in the new one had the impact of getting to the rebel camp and seeing freaking Mick Fleetwood

I enjoyed seeing Richard Dawson ham it up in the first one.

The book was much more enjoyable than the two movies. I think the most recent movie would have worked better as a streaming series.

As far as the Paramount marketing department, I don’t expect it to improve at all under the recent merger.

Yeah it was pretty meh all around. Not terrible but really felt like a half assed movie.

Mario 2, Running Man reboot, Twister sequel, Top Gun 2... I dunno, maybe work on an original project?

[–] keyez@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

He has, he co wrote Hit Man and he was fantastic in that movie.

[–] degen@midwest.social 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I really liked him in Twisters. That movie actually subverted a lot of my expectations, but I really had no idea what to expect going into it.

Running man was way better than it should have been, like enjoyable even though it was kinda mid

Probably one of my favorite comeback flicks. Among my friends at the time, Kevin Bacon was a household name after Tremors —and most of us looked up his earlier stuff, too.

In fact, if it weren't for that classic, I don't imagine Bacon's career would've survived long enough to be greenlit for the lore arc in Guardians. Hell, I'm gonna watch it tonight. Thanks! 🤘🏼

Tremors, and to a smaller degree Twister, are cemented in my childhood. Watching tremors now, it kind of surprises me that it was my favorite movie when I was 6... I think maybe it was in the perfect spot between scary and silly cause I thought it was the coolest thing.

And now that I'm thinking about it, I was into jaws and Godzilla around the same time. Just now realizing I might like monster movies lmao. They just don't make them like they used to!
