How do you see that stat? And what are the numbers specifically?

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The number is the number of posts viewed that belonged to that community. A view is defined as either opening the image or tapping on the post.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ah makes sense, thanks. How can you view that stat? I’m curious what mine are.

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (2 children)

This is a feature in Summit (a Lemmy/PieFed app). If you are using Summit you can view these stats in You > Local account stats.

Disclosure: I am the developer of Summit.

[–] Buage_@piefed.social 2 points 5 days ago

Just downloaded Summit !

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

Oh neat. Thanks!

[–] blanketswithsmallpox@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You're telling me we can be tracked... online?!

Shit shit shit shit.

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Actually the app tracks all of this locally and never sends the data anywhere. So, yea you can definitely be tracked but it won't be due to Summit.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

How do I see this on my side?

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Not sure which client you're using but on Summit click on "You" in the bottom right, then scroll down to "Local account stats" and it should be in there

[–] Axolotl_cpp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

To be noted: it works only if you use only summit to use lemmy, otherwise it's kinda useless as that feature only works locally on summit

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh, I see. Didn't know that. Do other clients have a similar feature?

[–] Axolotl_cpp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I use Thunder and it doesn't

Wait, it's all shitposts?

Always has been

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 23 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Shitpost is a catchall community. You can post just about anything here. There's a lot of discussion that goes on in some posts, and other posts that are simply 'heh bewbs' level content.

I love the randomness of it because it jives with the way my brain works. I flit about like a methed up hummingbird, and so does this community.

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I feel like Lemmy/Piefed made a big mistake if you compare it to the early days of Reddit. Peoplee here always try to put everything into neat little categories called communities, but most of them are dead or only have a single person posting stuff with zero comments. In the early days of Reddit there were no subreddits, you can still see how that looks on Hacker News for example. Lemmy should've started like that and introduce communties much later, as a consequence !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world has become the catch all community all this should've started with.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 3 points 5 days ago

That's true.

I have three pretty much dead communities I made which seemed like good ideas at the time but are just way too niche and I have way too little time to promote them. I'm subscribed to a pile of communities that are dead as well

[–] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

It's becoming the main discussion sub because it has the most eyeballs at any given time. Also, not a lot of repost bots because there's no political rage bait or random articles with zero comments. Just pure shitty memes.

[–] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 22 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The internet is one giant shitpost. It's a shit microcosm of shit Randy. Just shit muffins all the way down.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 4 days ago

Everything went to shit when the media started taking Internet nonsense seriously.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago

Not another night of the shitternet, please?

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 15 points 5 days ago

In an absurd world we act absurdly.

[–] muzzle@lemmy.zip 14 points 5 days ago

What the uncultured calls shitposting, I call philosophy.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 6 days ago

Lemmyshitpost isn't one of the top ten communities on Lemmy for no reason

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 3 points 6 days ago

I liked that community a lot, until the admin banned me for being ableist. I legitimately don't know what I did to piss them off, other than the reason the left in the mod log (calling me an ableist shitbag).

I feel like I'm pretty chill, and usually cautious, but I guess they didn't see it that way.

[–] zollus@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Then 3 years later your instance blocks lemmy.world so you have to make a new account on another instance

...

...

Hello everybody, how is it going?

[–] gandalf_der_13te@feddit.org 5 points 5 days ago

shitposts are the lube that makes things flow~

[–] Obituarykidney@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

Still get comments removed by mods

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I was here for the Tesseract news and that was one of the best afternoons I spent, finding my name on their shadow-block list.

This is where I had that afternoon.

[–] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 days ago

I like a bit of levity, especially when much of the political news sounds like a shitpost. At least here one can recommend punching Nazis and saying kids should be allowed to physically defend themselves while being titillated by soapy tiddies and letting the bean team bake.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 3 points 5 days ago

Because most Lemmy communities are ghost towns.

[–] neuracnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

The stick enthusiasts community will be avenged for this ghastly slight.

[–] Geodes_n_Gems@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago

been a long long time since I've seen this template, noice.

[–] Piege@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Guilty as charged

[–] mynameisbob@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

short and sweet

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Well aside from the ones with cute anime girls...

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is this the Palestine Isreal discussion?

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Of course Palestine is real.
