Donald Trump is promising more payments to voters just ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections — this time, to more than 20 million seniors, giving them $90 each to help pay for Medicare premiums.

The announcement, made late Friday night by Trump on social media, comes after the president last month said about 1 million people would get rebate checks of $500 for Affordable Care Act premiums. He has also promised on the campaign trail to send every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections.

That pledge — which would require approval from Congress — would likely cost more than $1 trillion, adding to the deficit and worsening inflation.

I'll cash the check, and still vote against EVERY MAGA, and for the most Socialist candidates I can.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

Joke 1. Trump never pays. Joke 2. These idiots vote for him anyways.

There i summed up all the comments on this type of article for the last however many years, I lost count

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

trump gives nothing. If you somehow did receive a check eventually, it's your own (taxpayer) dollars. Does anyone, first hand, actually know anyone stupid enough to think thisis a win for them?

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Everyone who voted for orange trash, especially two or three times.

Yeah. As soon as we get the Doge checks, tariff refund and election bribe money. Is anyone still dumb enough to believe this? Sadly, I think the answer might be, yes.

P.S. if and maga people will give me $4000 I'll give you my entire $5000 Doge check when it arrives. It's a really good deal

[–] Hapankaali@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Well, it may not indefinitely get you health care, but almost a decade for sure.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 17 points 14 hours ago

Maybe they could duct tape the $90 check to the wall and try to sell it for a huuuuge markup:

[–] FrankFrankson@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It was $100 now it's $90? By the time they go out it's gonna be $10 check and a coupon for 50% off an appetizer at Sizzler Steakhouse.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago

Trump gets a $10 commission on each check.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Wow! A whole 90 bucks! That'd buy maybe 30secs consultation. Assuming I survive the time in the waiting room. Yaaay..

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Almost a cart of groceries.

[–] Fredselfish@sh.itjust.works 80 points 16 hours ago (8 children)

Man he buying these people cheap. Whole 90 dollars that get them to the polls in his favor. Holy shit please tell me people are smarter then this?

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 59 points 16 hours ago

They’re not.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

They already voted for him, they're dumb as fuck and hate the women in their lives.

[–] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 21 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

lol theyre american. of course not

[–] MumboJumbo@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago

You're right. Source: I'm Merican

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Despite all the replies, people, in general, are smarter than this. Especially when they are being faced with real material problems like they are now. They don't care about some imaginary threat of immigrants or trans children playing sports when they can't afford to drive to the grocery store.

There will be tons of people still voting for Republicans. But, on average, this country is not that stupid. This midterms are going to be such a blowout, that my only worry is that the Trump administrations only defense will be to say they were ridged and send in the national guard. That's how much they're about to get smoked.

[–] AmyAye@nord.pub 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

No, they are not.

If they were, they would not have elected a blatant con artist TWICE.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

The average American voter usually votes off vibes they get from the one or two direct exposures to candidates one or two weeks before an election.

And that's ONLY in the 5-10 states in the US that actually have campaign ads running because that state is actually close enough to have a chance of being contested.

40-45 of the states in each presidential election are essentially fueling a politics of indifference.

That feeling of indifference disappears when the material effects of politics actually impact people's lives. People suddenly care when they start realizing that all that stupid political shit is making their lives worse.

The average voter is not spending each day listening to the news, listening to political discourse, you are "weird" for even commenting about politics. You and I are weird. We look at politics and care about the impact it has on the lives of others and that don't impact us directly. We are weird.

Why do you think suddenly Trump has lost popularity with 40% of the people that once supported him? If you're going to criticize their stupidity; you need to acknowledge their newfound "intelligence".

Sure, I think it should be 100%. But you're acting like it's 0%.

[–] guyoverthere123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 hours ago

US voters are definitely not smarter than that.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 3 points 9 hours ago

$90 is basically 1 cent in healthcare money, or more like 1 ruble. Where's that $2 gas you promised you lying pedo!

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 27 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (2 children)

Yeah, one Arby's combo meal, thanks

I wonder how much money this clown has made since being President?

If you want to be rich in America, be like Trump. He learned that you can make a LOT more money as a politician than a businessman, even while working half as much (at most, I'd be shocked if he worked more than a couple hours a day).

He has always been a little slow, took him long enough to figure things out.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 13 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Latest figure is over two billion last year. That’s 2.2 billion in one year.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds like he’s going to have a huge tax bill.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Ha ha, yeah, right, wink wink...

[–] 13igtyme@startrek.website 5 points 13 hours ago

According to a recent article he's made more stock trades than all of Congress combined while acting at president the past year and a half. Over 600 trades in July alone.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Why not the promised 5000 plus the promised record earnings from the tariffs? And why not everyone?

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 4 points 11 hours ago

So, $90 to sell out your fellow citizens and march headlong into a fascist dictatorship?

We all know all brainless pedo-protecting anti-patriotic MAGA degenerates are climbing over one another to get their welfare check.

Answer: ALL OF THEM.

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 18 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You can’t pay me enough to vote Republican

[–] arak@lemmy.today 4 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Why are we even allowing bribes

[–] AmyAye@nord.pub 4 points 10 hours ago

No see, it's not illegal because Trump is doing it as an act of being President to "save America from CoMmUnIsM or some shit and the Supreme Court said that it's fine for the President to commit crimes because the SC is a joke of an institution.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

The supreme Court made every day purge day, but for the president

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 13 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

What's funny us Gus average voter is fervently against "handouts" like the covid stimulus checks because of "muh inflation". Yet they'll probably eat this up.

[–] tburkhol@slrpnk.net 12 points 14 hours ago

I still remember George W Bush running the promise to give all of Clinton's budget surplus back to Americans. $600 per adult, handed out just before 9/11. Dude got handed a balanced budget and promptly went $100B into deficit. Even before 2 decades of war.

[–] NateNate60@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago

Oh yeah, well I will pay everyone 91 dollars if Trump's party loses. Pinkie promise.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

As always, why not do it now?

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Because he'd yell at the female reporter who asks this exact question.

[–] bobjones1665@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

If you're gonna fuck me over, at least buy me dinner you cheap fuck.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Throw in a roll of paper towels and I am in.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

This is so beyond ridiculous and just a slap in the face.

He might as well start tossing pennies into crowds from one of his stupid hate rallies, FFS.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Throwing the pennies hard enough to break skin*

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago
