Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
the worst part of hyperfixating on a really niche game is no one knows wtf youre talking about when you finally have a chance to info dump about it
But they need to know where the highest point in each level of Bubsy 3D is!
Just add another layer to the info dump!
Man, all y'all playing games people have heard of. Filthy casuals with your "Warframe", "Runescape", "Minecraft", "TF2" and "Diablo".
I, a true connoisseur, personally spent my childhood sinking over 2000 hours into Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (not to be confused with the far more popular and lauded Final Fantasy Tactics). It's the only Final Fantasy game I know of that has never been rereleased. The other game of my childhood was over 200 hours in The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. The first video game I can remember playing was Final Fantasy II.
Okay but The Minish Cap is a straight up banger so I'd say it balances out
I llke how you make fun of people for liking mainstream games, and then proceed to list off some of the most mainstream games ever that you so happen to like.
I think you would really thrive in EVE Online, if you're looking for a different sandbox to pull off this kind of crap in. Your autist and autist-tolerant community awaits.
The game is so complex and nuanced that the learning curve is nigh impossible to overcome by yourself but it also means that the game is full of fun little interactions and opportunities for people to discover and exploit.
A lot of early game poverty, sprawling decision fatigue, and impenetrable mechanical complexity can be mitigated by knowing people, so if you do give it a try, DM me and I can infodump all about my special interest.

LOL I hoped that I would find Eve Online mentioned in the comments.
Also ck2 and eu4
Another third of life goes into the worst sleep too 😅
not every weird thing is because autism.
the irony is that you can find this comment under any post about autism, which sure seems like a hyperfixation to me.
It's almost like autism is a set of traits that everyone has to a small degree they are simply stronger and highly amplified in people with autism to the point of it greatly affecting their daily lives.
Everyone can spend too much time on a video game, autistic people who have a special interest in video games are way more likely to spend insane hours on the the games they fixate on.
But this one is
The ADHD people play good games instead
or none at all because i have so many and then get caught up thinking about which ones could get played or my backlog or the emulators or the..
fuck it road rash 64 it is
My dumbass was like "I remember playing road rash and road rash 2 on sega, are there seriously 64 of them now??"
...no. It's for Nintendo 64, lol. I don't even think fifa has anywhere close to 64 games.
I developed something like ADHD in adulthood, and the only gaming I do is grinding Assetto Corsa and a couple moto sims. Anything with a story gets forgotten halfway through.
Of course not, but "restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities" is one of the key traits of autism observed by non-autistic folks and one of the major criteria/requirements for diagnosis, and playing a specific video game over and over can certainly line up with part of that
Does this make someone autistic, no, but if that person's seeing this, pretty heavy social communication differences with others, inflexibility with routine, nonverbal communication differences, atypical sensory sensitivity, and all this has been since an early age, they should probably start considering the possibility
- Not every weird interest is autism
- Not every habit that disrupts your productivity is ADHD
- Wanting things to be tidy / clean / organized is not always OCD
In 2000, mental orders were under discussed. In 2015+, people are obsessed with labeling themselves as some sorta broken.
Statistically most of you guys are just slightly nerdy, lazy, and picky. Not autistic / adhd / OCD.
That's like going to a UFC match and telling the audience that statistically 51% of them are female. Might be true on a global scale, but where you collect your sample matters.
I bet the demographic on lemmy skew much higher for neurodivergent people than in general population (kind of like how UFC fans skew more male than in general population), and even more so on lemmy.blahaj.zone (you know, because of the statistics on blahajs selected demographic).
Coincidentally, I'm getting way more replies on Lemmy from people who don't get sarcasm, than on Reddit.
Now that makes me feel old. I played a bunch of minecraft, but abruptly stopped and never went back. When i played the beat gear you could have was diamond armor and diamond sword. The other day i randomly watched. a minecraft video and was like: what's all this?
If you played Minecraft then you're not old.
Minecraft became popular when I was a 12. How old am I?
spoiler
Take the year and substract 2000. Thats the answer
Some of the new stuff is actually kinda nice though, and the newer music is a whole vibe. That being said I'm playing gtnh which is like.... 1.8 heavily modded with some newer stuff backported.
Gonna toss this in here cause it is a little known game that I have heard described as a glue trap for autism (and I am a stuck rat with 3000 hours).
Siralim Ultimate
If you like creature collectors and putting together broken builds with an insane number of moving parts a la magic the gathering you will probably enjoy it.
Hey EYE Devine Cybermancy isn't just the worst, it's also the best.
My legs are okay!
i dumped 7000 hours into skyblock before getting a job and realizing I don't got time for that anymore lol. hit level 500+78b networth with a lot of shit maxed out and called it
Elite: Dangerous. 1300 hours and counting.
Frontier are an absolute shitcake of a company, and David Braben is a greedy motherfucker. The game is a mile wide and an inch deep, with some fucknasty game mechanics and grinds.
Despite all that and more, nothing I've played so far in my 44 years on this earth is quite as fucking cool an experience. It works well with all my simrig peripherals including the TrackIR, which helps the experience a lot I will admit. But still, it has it's moments.
Almost felt it was gonna be Hypixel SkyBlock before even clicking, I also sunk like 4000 hours into it. Was fun though before it got ruined, 2019-2020 SkyBlock era was amazing.
I wish I had the time and patience to dedicate myself to a game like that. I'm too easily bored and distracted.
I desperately want to get good at a game called Devil Daggers or it's sequel Hyper Demon because the WR runs look insane! (links are videos)
I always play for 5 minutes, get frustrated (or confused in Hyper Demon) and give up
carpal tunnel from playing a video game obsessively
And I'm instantly transported back to the heady days of Diablo II. Thank you for that jaunt down memory lane.
Warframe. Fun gameplay, and they're constantly expanding it with new game modes that each feel rewarding. And the story is cool
I haven't hyperfixated in a long time, the last three were probably Terraria, Civ V, and Rimworld.
Mine was Wurm Online. Loved my community of weirdos there, even the drama.
I've played Wazhack so much. Is it pretty? Not really. Does it have bugs? Yes. Have I played a ton on the website, bought the website version, bought it so long ago was sent a steam code, and now have way too many hours on the steam version. I love it. I go back to it.
Derping around on TF2 trade servers. Not even trading. Just not being in the mood for a competitive game and rather fucking around with randos.
Runescape comes to mind ...
The game is designed to be a grind-slog with the only benefit of seeing a number go up. I really don't get how everyone doesn't get bored out of their mind after playing it a couple of days.
I think it’s the promise that you’re progress isn’t wasted in the next patch cycle that hits there lol
No endgame gear treadmill with weekly gated content to keep you resubbing
Me playing Donkey Kong Land 3 over and over and over and over and over and
