For more context, the fascists in Japan are mad that Trump said that China was allied with the US during WWII because the fascists in Japan believe that KMT = China. The fascists in Japan are saying that the US allied with KMT during WWII and not PRC. Fascists in Japan are asserting that Taiwan is the "real" China.

China was indeed an American ally during the war against Imperial Japan. But the China that the U.S. partnered with back then was the Republic of China (ROC), ruled by the Kuomintang (KMT), which later fled to Taiwan.

The narrative of the Chinese Communist Party, however, is that it led the "liberation" of China, claiming full credit.

I think maybe Japan fascists are trying to draw attention away from which side Japan was on in WWII.

Ohhh. It's stupid but there's something there. Thanks for spelling it out.

The communists were also part of that anti-Japanese coalition, but I think the Americans almost entirely worked just with the KMT.

Which would have happened in half a day if they just shut up about it, but fascists can't help themselves

seems like idealism leads to a fear that realilty will shift if they don't defend their narrative via the rituals

Japanese population knows less about its past atrocities than the USA does, and that's not an easy bar to get under

We had a Japanese student in my highschool Japanese class as a proxy ESL for him. I remember some of the kids asked him about WW2 and he said his teachers taught him that Hitler tricked the Japanese into joining the Axis powers lol.

He was super into pro wrestling and an overall goofball.
