It's a weird ad for drive-in theaters huh?

Each epoch of technology democratizes elements of society whilst also making those elements less social, less community oriented.

Stage plays were a thing, then eventually cinema and drive-ins, then TV, and now watching shows on our personal computers and devices.

Each time there's be less chances of interaction with other people in order to get the supposed "reward" of service delivery.

This goes not just for media and cinema, but for ALL technology:

Camp fires -> shared candle/gas lamp -> electric lighting.

Just for street lights in the age of lamp oil you had not only all the industry to supply wicks and oil, but also every day jobs like lamplighters (lighting the street lamps) and Link-boys. (Paid to follow you with a lamp on streets without gas lighting).

The desire we're heading towards seems to be singular isolated technological ubermensch completely isolated travelling the galaxy with all the technological capabilities of a society, but no longer needing anyone from society. The blessings of technological convenience as our only curse.

You could sneak people in too. We'd hide people in the trunk

You can still sneak in booze. I bring my water bottle in every time I go to the theater and they never check what's inside it

There was one a few miles outside of town when I was in HS in WI in the early 80s (it was actually very much like That 70s Show). The entire back row of cars were high school kids. And a keg or two. Drinking age was still 18 so it wasn’t hard to get.
