I also imagine you prep very differently for an 8 day mission vs a 6 month mission. In terms of physical fitness, trainings, family life etc.

Blowing exhorbitant amounts of cash every time a politician takes an anti-fascist Israel stance isn't a sustainable strategy

I want to agree with you on that, but it's pretty clear that promoting fascism is at least in the short-term very profitable. Plus the money they spend ousting anti-Isreal politicians means they are more likely to get US Military money, so they spend less on their own military, which frees up funds in order to... influence US politics. I don't like it, but so far it appears to be an effective strategy

American tax forms have an "other income" field. That's where you can report any money you've made not covered by the other fields including any ill gotten gains. That section doesn't require you to list a source, and even if it did nobody expects you to list "$7,800 - meth sales, $32,200 - crack sales, $50,000 - robberies". You'd just say "Other income - $90,000"

The logic being that if the government never gives you the opportunity to pay taxes on something, then they can't charge you with tax evasion. Plus there's a lot of money in crime! If the US can get a piece of that pie they will!

Finally, the IRS is an already underfunded organization and contrary to the popular narrative, is very easy to work with. If you make a genuine good faith effort to pay your taxes and they find issues, an agent will work with you to resolve it. They'll set up payment plans, defer payments, and more if you're cooperative. All this is to say that reporting people for crimes besides tax ones and terrorism (the only one they're legally required to report to outside agencies) just makes their job harder, so they don't

A Wells Fargo spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company "holds employees to the highest standards and does not tolerate unethical behavior."

When someone links to a community if you open the post and then follow the link it works fine. If you're browsing with cards and try to follow the link from the card without opening the actual post it attempts to open the link in a browser which fails because the link is not the full URL. It would be nice if clicking the link would take me to that community on that instance, which is what it does when you open the post and click the link

I understand and obviously agree or else I wouldn't be vaguely gestures to everyone around him

But let's not live in fantasy land. Capitalism rules the internet and like it's old predecessor Feudalism there's one rule. Bigger Army (bank account) diplomacy. None of the other rules matter if you're big enough to write them. Nobody will willingly give up their level of control of the internet and everyone who takes it will do so with the objective of replacing them not dethroning

Idk man, ask a beaver

[-] makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 235 points 7 months ago

Science actually figured this one out. Beavers raised in captivity when exposed to a speaker playing river noises will cover it up with as much stuff as possible to hide the noise. So it's the noise they have an issue with

A perpetual problem I have as a Scrum Master in the tech field is the business people's inability to understand that nine women can't make a baby in a month. There are just certain things where throwing money at it won't give you any faster of a return on investment. More money doesn't make better games faster, if anything it adds bureaucracy that impedes critical work. Most great video games aren't capable of being produced on an annual basis and trying to hit your Q4 results over and over won't magically produce high quality output

Ah yes, suddenly everyone cares about where money is going when discussing something they dislike.

The thing about diversity and inclusion is that there are a lot of systemic barriers that people don't see until they go looking for them. People who live with disadvantages learn to adapt to them and frequently don't vocalize them to avoid being a burden. Contrary to conservative narrative, these offices do more than promote affirmative action. These offices examine historical architecture to make them more accessible to the handicapped, proactively identify/resolve problems for university brands, provide funds and support to clubs, and help with employment opportunities for students.

Will the closure of these offices immediately create problems for campuses? Probably not. Will there be other issues that pop up that these departments exist to prevent? Almost certainly

That and NASA is a very safety conscious organization. So they want to overestimate everything and include way more than they need. So when she said a couple per day you can round that to 5 for safety, then considering it's a 6 day mission they want to include triple the amount of needed supplies which means 18 days worth. 18*5=90 which is pretty close to 100 so let's round up again. Plus tampons are a useful first aid tool, especially in zero gravity. You shove some into an open wound and it'll prevent blood from spilling all over the very sensitive equipment. Does a woman need 100 tampons for 6 days? Of course not, but she wasn't going to spend a week in the mountains, she was going to space, so the safety precautions were much more stringent
