All of them and identify them all on a globe (besides island countries cause we all know that's impossible)
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.

Costa Rica, Belize, Nicaragua, Bermuda, Bahamas, Tobago, San Juan, Paraguay, Uruguay, Suriname, and French Guiana, Barbados, and Guam
All of them!
How many can I name correctly? Some of them.
Damn I didn't realise it was timed. Trying to do all that typing on mobile was a bit slow, I only got to 80 before running out of time, and still hadn't done Europe and only started on Africa.
A bit rough they make you spell them all!
Well they have to unless they'd present you with a list of fake and real ones or something.
Yeah true. Can't give you a list to pick from I guess haha, just annoying that I know the countries but sometimes can't spell them!
Oof, I used to be better. I didn't realise it was timed, and and number of them I knew but couldn't spell.
The last couple of times have had me wondering if I hallucinated the existence of the Philippines because I apparently don’t know how to spell.
ETA: like I immediately think for a minute it’s still like Guam and not its own thing?
106
What countries did y'all embarassingly forget? For me: Austria, Albania, Montenegro, Cyprus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, Israel, Palestine, Syria, Peru, Colombia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Lebanon
Algeria, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Dominica, Egypt, France, Gambia, Hungary, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Libya, Mongolia, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Surinam, Turkey, Uruguay, Vietnam, West Xylophone, Yemen, Zimbabwe
My spouse is great at these. Her only blind spots are small islands in the Pacific and some down the Caribbean chain, and half of those she knows. I would bet the farm she could hit 150 named correctly on a map without breaking a sweat. Then place their flags and name capitals.
- Malta was driving me nuts; couldn't think of the name.
and I forgot Austria of all places
Got 123/197 today, those tiny west African countries and pacific island nations tend to get me.
It'll get easier with time.
Unforunately.
And then harder with more time, as is tradition
So many.
124 before running out of time. Spent way too long trying to spell Phillipines and Liechtenstein, and ended up giving up. I think I would've ended up on 135ish maybe.
over 150 in under 9 minutes.
Probably like 12 and half would be continents.
167/197
I've got the continents down pretty well, but the islands always get me.
All. I played that quiz more than 30 times. A few days ago I played the flag quiz to refresh my memory.
Does some know of a good quiz about capital cities or big cities? That's something I like to learn
You could try When Taken to really test your knowledge! Gets you thinking about more than just where the image is, but when also.
When Taken is a nice concept, but I have found a mistake once and lost a bit of trust in it. In the picture was a birth and death year of a person, but the photo was supposedly taken a few years before the person died.
Interesting, I haven't played in while but only came across the odd national celebration, no birthdays. I'm not too surprised there may be mistakes. The computer 'ai' guess can be...how the hell can it figure that?!, so I assume it's created using the same programme.
I don't think they use a ai program for that, they probably just have a dataset with the pictures. Might even be a dataset for training ai.
The picture in question was from the AIDS Quilt when it was displayed in Washington D.C. in the 90s. So not even a very old picture
I put ai in ' ' as I assume it's generated automatically somehow. AI is just a somewhat a modern/newer version of computer generated/automated in general (colloquially speaking).
The date part is probably the most tricky one to add when making these, unless it's an accurate record, it could be an estimate anyway.
Almost all of em, it's only because I forget the name of a few that I can't name them all. I can point out where they all are even when I can't put name to location.
I can name all of Europe, Asia, South America. The Caribbean, South Pacific and African islands/West Coast of Africa is where it gets tricky.
sporcle is a great place to try this out, best experienced with an ad blocked
It's a bit of a hobby of mine, I also do lots of quizzes on jetpunk.com, so naming all countries of the world is actually very easy for me, with or without a map.
All from memory:
Latvia, Canada, Mexico, Nigeria, Sudan, South Sudan, Congo, Egypt, South Africa, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Dominican Republic, Czechia, Australia, The United States, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, Argentina, Peru, Cuba, UAE, Haiti, Tonga, East Timor, Liberia, Paraguay, Hondurus, Panama, Japan, China, South Korea, North Korea, Iran, Greece, Italy, Germany, Austria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Cambodia, Moldova, Romania, Ireland, Palestine, UK, Poland, and Cyprus
I got 72 on that quiz just now.
