Poverty didn't exist until the 2008 Recession. Prior to that, everyone was rich and all resources were shared equitably. Nobody was ever in debt, we had full employment, and neither medical debt nor homelessness was real.

I don’t know who actually started the Boomers vs Millennials gripefest, but both of these advertising demographics can just shut up.
Eat the ultra-rich and redistribute their wealth.
It was started by the oligarch propaganda machine to distract people from class war into generational war instead.
And people latched unto that shit because making broad unfounded generalisations about people, solely based on their age, is one of the few types of bigotry which is still not seen as socially unacceptable (by non-fascists).
Honestly, I'm with you on that.
Idk maybe it's because I'm a millennial who has boomer parents who never "got ahead" in life. One of my parents is unlikely to ever be able to retire. I never got the "rich boomer" hate because my parents continue to work and struggle financially in their mid to late 60s.
Gets a bit tiring to hear large swaths of people shit on other large swaths of people all the time. Such is the internet, I suppose.
I grew up as the only child of a single boomer mother who was poor as fuck. All that to say, your parents are probably good people, because wealth has nothing to do with how shitty boomers are to people.
My mother was homeless for a solid 5 years in my adulthood, and the bitch still had the gall to complain about section 8 housing being heavily populated by black people cuz she didn't want to be the "only white person".
Because they're generalizing. Is every boomer a millionaire? No, there were plenty of cooks, waitresses, mechanics, retail jobs, ect that aren't. What they're talking about are people that made middle-class my money in a lifetime career at the same job. They became millionaires by doing absolute shit other than living life, on a single income with however many kids.
Now a days, if you're in a middle office job you're living paycheck to me paycheck in a 1 bedroom apartment and may or may not be forced to take the bus. People with the jobs earlier ate living of revolving credit, snap, and maybe other forms of convenient assistance.
So no, EVERY BOOMER didn't make out, but the bar for "a good life" was multiple times lower than it is now. Now people who would be considered "rich" by boomers are middle-class today.
We're in the last gasps of the pre-AI era, which is going to lead to a permanent and rising double digit unemployment rate, and the arguments will be about what to do with these excess people.
It's people trying to make it so we blame old people for hoarding wealth instead of the people actually hoarding wealth. And when they call to start forcing boomers into camps or cut their healthcare to kill them, They think the rest of us will get our blood lust for justice satiated. And forget it wasn't billionaires and the politicians they own who took everything from us.
While I agree that those hoarding wealth and power are the primary target, a lot of boomers keep voting for fucking fascists and refuse to acknowledge the leopards eating their faces.
So do people from all generations.
They have been fed capitalism propaganda their whole lives.
I'm not saying that makes them not responsible for their votes. What I'm saying is that people en masse can be and have been manipulated.
People in the future will blame us now for all the pollution and climate change.
For fresh water loss.
They will blame these things on us right now. Why didn't we vote to fix it?
But we know it's not that simple. Often times , all politicians in an election are bought already. And those who aren't, get less campaign money and get smeared in the media.
Even experiencing it right now , knowing it's rigged. Knowing that votes don't always matter much , people today still think the full blame goes on the voters of the time that had the exact same interferences as we have today.
I should have been more clear. I know they are being manipulated. I don't blame them for everything.
I'm trying to acknowledge a justified and legitimate frustration, not discourage everyone from focusing on the real source of the problem.
That's fair. Most problems have multiple components
Also refuse to release their death-grip on power
Would you retire in this economy? Especially if you had prescription drugs that were keeping you alive amounting to 2k a month?
Genuine question. Would you ?
Also. Not all boomers have a retirement fund. And social security does not pay out enough to live on.
My grandpa gets like 1200 a month or something.
A good chunk goes to prescriptions.
They should have some of 10 years ago after the first time they crashed our economy, not after they do it again within 20 years
I don't think they are talking about the average person. I think they are talking about those in leadership roles.
