In a wide-ranging interview, Wilson said he opened a D.C. "church service" because of the number of Christians who adhere to his church's teachings within the Trump administration. One of the most prominent followers is Hegseth, who attends the newly opened D.C. congregation.

"If Kamala [Harris] had won the presidency, there would have been basically zero evangelicals in the White House administration," Wilson said. "And although Donald Trump is not an evangelical by any stretch … his administration is full of them."

That's why Wilson sees an opportunity for his beliefs to be seriously considered at this moment, including the belief that eventually the U.S. should be a Christian theocracy, whereby Christian principles dictate state authority and religion and politics are tightly intertwined.

Literally what they accuse Muslims of...

His focus now is on growing his movement through "preaching the gospel, planting churches, starting classical Christian schools" to gradually turn the U.S. into a Christian theocracy over the course of several generations, despite the Constitution prohibiting the government from establishing an official religion.

Under that vision, Wilson told NPR that non-Christians wouldn't hold public office. Asked whether non-Christians would be allowed to vote, Wilson said, "Yes, probably," adding that there would be restrictions on public spaces for non-Christian activities.

"So probably the best illustration of this would be church bells? Yes. Minarets? No," he said.

Why?

"Because, the public space would belong to Christ," he added.

But it’s okay, because America is a Christian Nation™️

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I cannot tell you how many pearl clutching right wing assholes - and their Murc's Law assistants - would chastise me, try to get me silenced, etc., for talking about xtian Shariah Law and the Talibangelists - claiming "no such thing exists" and I'm just being "hateful" to point out right wing xtian extremism.

Yeah, no shit, they don't literally exist, but other than a few matters of doctrine, extreme conservative Muslims and extreme conservative xtians differ on very, very little and in fact worship the same god of the Hebrew bible.

Good luck with that. Me and my queer friends are all armed to the teeth. Want a nationwide Stonewall? Come the fuck at me.

The Seven Mountain Mandate people are fucking crazy. And even though xtianity is on the wane, we are neck-deep in these types of assholes still. And they have an outsized influence.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

For those who don't follow, 7 mandate means taking over all of culture.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Mountain_Mandate

Some choice bits, emphasis mine:

The movement is believed by its followers to have begun in 1975 with a purported message from God delivered to evangelicals Loren Cunningham, Bill Bright, and Francis Schaeffer ordering them to invade the "seven spheres" of society identified as family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government.

Hm, sounds almost like they have declared a jihad to wage on our secular way of life here in America.

The movement was generally supportive of the presidency of Donald Trump, with member Paula White becoming Trump's spiritual advisor. In 2020, Charlie Kirk said, "finally we have a president that understands the seven mountains of cultural influence" during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference.[11]

Openly tying donnie to this crazy stuff.

A January 2024 Denison University poll found 41% of American Christians believe in 7MM.[2]

That is a frightening prospect.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Also, wanted to add - the good news is that xtianity is no longer the dominating influence it once was. They are down to the range of 62%-65%.

Extinction explosion, before a major social movement ends there is a push by it's most extreme memebers to make that social movement relevant again.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah. I always wondered, especially during the mid-00s and the Obama years, if the conservatives xtian types and/or the white nationalist types would react like cornered animals as the xtians saw their membership dwindling and their unwarranted privileges dwindling with it - xtians are especially used to having their asses kissed just for being xtian, and assume sentences like "a good Christian man" make any kind of sense to non-xtians, but they just assume they should be centered and on a pedestal and everyone else, especially non-believers should just tolerate being treated as less-than.

Couple that with less white people and I wondered what kind of panic might set in. I guess we are seeing it. People like Stephen Miller actively trying to whiten up the place. The Seven Mountain Mandate types openly saying they think this should be a xtian nation...

BTW, I remember a moment in the mid-00s when I gave the stats on xtian membership to some evangelical. He at first said he didn't believe me, but when I told him to look it up himself, I saw the look of real panic on his face for a moment. He was definitely quiet and rather angry later in the day, so I think he did look it up...

Neil DeGrasse Tyson makes an excellent point about owning responsibility for your personal truths while honoring personal freedoms.

In essence, he’s saying keep your Abrahamic bullshit cult nonsense to yourself.

Sadly, I think his faith in rationality underestimates the capacity for people to be propagandized towards right-wing authoritarianism, while the rational democratic folks are too busy squabbling with one another to resist.

I mean, he points this out in the video, but has too much hope that scientific thought can save us from this. Our education system is too far gone to overcome a problem that’s been decades in the making.

Democratic societies seem to sadly degenerate into autocratic regimes, as history has demonstrated.

We also run into the problem of the paradox of tolerance. If you tolerate the intolerant, then society will eventually become victims to regimes that scapegoat marginalized groups to consolidate power and form fascist theocracies. So ironically, at some point, we might have to go full Bolshevik in order to suppress this from happening.

If we’re going to have authoritarianism, I guess I’d rather have the left-flavor variety, to squash out the Christofascist right-wingers. China seems to be headed in a better direction than the United States at this point.

Why are we soliciting input from pastors? This is a political stance made by a ~~member~~ leader of a parish. Repeal their tax breaks.

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Wilson acknowledged that those who hold his worldview are still a minority in this country and that there are Americans who see him as a fascist.

I wonder why.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

They see their numbers hitting the skids and they want to compel membership and destroy education. This is why assholes like JD said they want to destroy universities.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hear you. Take a fucking hint.

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sorry. Bad wording on my part. I meant they should take the hint.

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 2 points 22 hours ago

Oh, gotcha.

[–] Corvidae@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

And they wonder why church attendance is down.

[–] kibblebits@quokk.au 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Haha. Hey guys. You can still stop it. But it’s not at a voting booth. You got a few more more weeks before martial law.

[–] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Eh, I wouldn’t count on a revolution en masse. Or even a general strike for that matter. Many leftist Americans are armed, but are not organized and have not developed deep mutual aid networks. Resistance is only is effective when it’s organized and massive. Not to mention having to train a bunch of new fighters in things like urban combat, and training civilians in proper civil disobedience. You have to raise both a peaceful movement in tandem with an armed resistance.

I do predict a few days of sporadic, chaotic violence, but it will be quickly stamped out. The administration will paint itself as “heroes” for defeating “insurgent communist terrorists.”

That sporadic violence will be pointless. Possibly massive riots in few large cities, where rioters just end up destroying their own neighborhoods and not going after the real enemies.

It’ll take hyperinflation, waiting in lines at food banks to only find out they ran out of food, etc. Also, many more people you know and love being dragged off, imprisoned and killed. The storming of the bastille and the Bolshevik Revolution happened under much worse material conditions.

[–] SpaceTimeInterval@lemmy.cafe 3 points 1 day ago

Non-fascist Americans better organise.

If they try that. Time for mass protests to completely shut down the streets outside the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court.

[–] dragonlover@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The fact that this is not already happening sucks. Why wait

[–] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

People are still clinging onto hope for the elections. That and fear.

Historically, we see that people have had to be pushed to far worse conditions before fighting back. Americans have been spoiled. They were largely spared from the horrors of the World Wars on the European mainland. We’ve been the top dogs in the New World for a long time, surrounded by two oceans for protection.

Spain lived under fascist rule for four decades. And many lives were lost in that fight. Europeans know first hand the horror of fascism.

No Kings rallies aren’t going to stop what’s been set in motion. The majority needs to rise up all together and refuse to comply.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Spain lived under fascist rule for four decades. And many lives were lost in that fight. Europeans know first hand the horror of fascism.

Eh....... I think the rapid rise of far right parties all across Europe would dispel the notion that Europe has received some kind of immunity to fascism.

In reality all democracies are vulnerable to fascism. The German jurist and political philosopher Carl Schmitt wrote about the inherent vulnerability of democracy in his book The Crisis of Parliamentary Democracy in 1923. He basically wrote the playbook that every fascist still utilizes today.

Writing "Every actual democracy rests on the principle that not only are equals equal, but unequals will not be treated equally." Basically, you can tear apart any democracy by framing diversity and minority opinions as existential threats to the political community, by exploiting this you can lay the groundwork for majoritarian tyranny and state-sponsored exclusion.

[–] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Under this framework, I’d rather live in authoritarian China than the authoritarian Christofascist idiocracy of the USA.

That is one of the potential benefits of the authoritarian state, though that benefit heavily relies on the state itself taking responsibility over its own failings instead of utilizing minority groups as a scape goat.

So it's more of a roll of the die instead of something that can be purposely developed as a plan of action by reactionary forces within the majority.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They've figured out how to do it without repealing the 19th. "One household, one vote" sound familiar?

[–] ToastedCoconuts@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Many, many women live alone or are the head of their household. I once had a neighbor who did not believe women should be able to own homes by themselves. That's when I learned how many single women owned homes in my neighborhood, and we eventually teamed up to look out for each other against this guy.

So I imagine that rule you quoted would create a landslide of further rights restrictions so women could not live alone or own property ever again

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I once had a neighbor who did not believe women should be able to own homes by themselves.

Was not until 1974 that it was codified at the federal level. Some men apparently pine for the days prior.

[–] Meatwagon@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

What denomination is this?

[–] Keilik@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you wanted the actual answer, it’s the “New Apostolic Reformation” and they use the “Passion” translation of the bible. It’s the same denomination Mike Johnson and other scumbags are a part of.

An excellent book on the subject is “The Violent Take It By Force” and it’s absolutely fucking wild what they believe.

I didn’t have time to find it earlier, but here is a DVD you can buy about their mission to the top of Mount Everest to kill mother Mary Magdalene so the Middle East wouldn’t be blocked from Jesus anymore.

Or here is a blog from 2015 that summarizes the DVD and it’s such an amazing read I would highly recommend it and look forward to someone turning it into a really stupid DnD one shot someday.
