- No memes, trolling, misinformation, or low-effort posts/comments (including reposts). If you see posts like this that anger you, do not engage. Report, block, and live a happier life than they do. Any slap-fight is subject to comment removals. Fights full of rule violations will result in temporary bans to cool off.
- No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules and use critical thinking when reading, posting, and commenting. Users that repeatedly have comments or posts removed, weaponize reports, or violate the code of conduct, will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. Extinction explosion, before a major social movement ends there is a push by it's most extreme memebers to make that social movement relevant again.
Yeah. I always wondered, especially during the mid-00s and the Obama years, if the conservatives xtian types and/or the white nationalist types would react like cornered animals as the xtians saw their membership dwindling and their unwarranted privileges dwindling with it - xtians are especially used to having their asses kissed just for being xtian, and assume sentences like "a good Christian man" make any kind of sense to non-xtians, but they just assume they should be centered and on a pedestal and everyone else, especially non-believers should just tolerate being treated as less-than.
Couple that with less white people and I wondered what kind of panic might set in. I guess we are seeing it. People like Stephen Miller actively trying to whiten up the place. The Seven Mountain Mandate types openly saying they think this should be a xtian nation...
BTW, I remember a moment in the mid-00s when I gave the stats on xtian membership to some evangelical. He at first said he didn't believe me, but when I told him to look it up himself, I saw the look of real panic on his face for a moment. He was definitely quiet and rather angry later in the day, so I think he did look it up...
Neil DeGrasse Tyson makes an excellent point about owning responsibility for your personal truths while honoring personal freedoms.
In essence, he’s saying keep your Abrahamic bullshit cult nonsense to yourself.
Sadly, I think his faith in rationality underestimates the capacity for people to be propagandized towards right-wing authoritarianism, while the rational democratic folks are too busy squabbling with one another to resist.
I mean, he points this out in the video, but has too much hope that scientific thought can save us from this. Our education system is too far gone to overcome a problem that’s been decades in the making.
Democratic societies seem to sadly degenerate into autocratic regimes, as history has demonstrated.
We also run into the problem of the paradox of tolerance. If you tolerate the intolerant, then society will eventually become victims to regimes that scapegoat marginalized groups to consolidate power and form fascist theocracies. So ironically, at some point, we might have to go full Bolshevik in order to suppress this from happening.
If we’re going to have authoritarianism, I guess I’d rather have the left-flavor variety, to squash out the Christofascist right-wingers. China seems to be headed in a better direction than the United States at this point.

Around 15:25 he goes into setting it up, then explicitly mentions it around. 17:27 he mentions it explicitly.

I agree Piers is weirdly reserved, too. I don’t think it’ll sink in, though. He’ll keep giving a platform for fascist idiots to broadcast their hate.
