Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

You're right, but in case you didn't know, not everyone's clients show display names (or pronouns) and only show usernames. The app and frontends I used to use to access Lemmy were like that, and I had no idea, so I'd just use peoples' usernames, like that person did. It wasn't until I tried other apps that I learned people had them! I didn't even know those were options, lol.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

..... Blahaj accounts have had an API feature for pronouns on username but I've been headcannoning people's identity based on their posts this whole time like a fucking idiot

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

you browsing lemmy: "fuck, there's a ton of non binary people on here"

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

I mean, that's why I kind of gravitated to this 196 over the other one

[–] grranibal@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

It’s possible see names and pronouns on Lemmy???? I had no idea

I think Cars is a pretty cool guy. Eh ker-chows raectracks and doesn't afraid of anything.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

Relampago Marquinhos in the ptbr version, which translates back into "Lightning Lil' Mark"

[–] Ratio_Tile@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 1 week ago (5 children)

It's named after the dish Remi decides to make at the end that saves the restaurant

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"saves the restaurant"

I mean yes, but also no ... 🙁

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'll make a better restaurant! With roller skates... and rats!

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

In fact, forget the restaurant and roller skates!

[–] frank@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 week ago

He sacrifices himself to become the ratatouille. So sad, RIP Lemi Ratatouille

[–] Ratio_Tile@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

Well, I mean, what i said was technically wrong, so it's not technically a spoiler?

[–] vorpuni@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 3 points 1 week ago

And what they call a ratatouille is actually a tian since it's roasted cut vegetables and not a vegetable stew.

[–] mossy_@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I take the reference another layer further by calling him Raccacoonie

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I call my cat that because he's a food stealing rat the size of a raccoon.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

Fun fact: technically the dish in the movie is called Confit Byaldi, not a "real" ratatouille (which is just a stew)

Source: Ratatouille is one of my favorite dishes and movies

Edit:

Have a photo of my recent ratatouille:

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 week ago

Since we are going the corrections route, Confit Byaldi is a ratatouille but a ratatouille is not necessarily a Confit Byaldi

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Guten tag, if I may, while it's normal for ratatouille to have some liquid left over in the process, this one seems just a touch watery, maybe try letting it cook without the lid for a while towards the end.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's not yet fully cooked in the photo. I normally let it cook down don't more

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

Ah very good, very good indeed. Enjoy your delicious ratatouille :)

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You put Basil in the ratatouille?

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago

No basil in there. The green stuff is zucchini

[–] DaGreenGobbo@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

No, Basil's in his room with Manuel. At least, I hope he is.

Oh chérie, tu n'arrêtes pas de m'éblouir avec ce regard appétissant. Ça te dit de t'asseoir ici?

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

"ce regard appétissant" lmao.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I thought he was called Little Chef.

His name is Remy and that's what the other rats call him. Linguini calls him little chef because they can't actually speak to one another and therefore he can't tell him his actual name.

[–] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

I'm certain more than one penis owner have named theirs "Little Chef"

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

That has to be lirr, right?

[–] Slein4273@feddit.org 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What is lirr? Couldnt find an explanation

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Bold choice for someone to name their daughter after the emperor of omicron persei 8.

[–] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 4 points 1 week ago

Looks like it

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"Ratatouille" is just "pisto" with slightly different spices.
