Yes, the ruling class wants to reduce the global population, which is why the ruling class is also constantly talking about how we need to increase birthrates.

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 12 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

i mean ruling class // basic economics

lots of old people + more pensions + more healthcare costs + less young people working = young people pay more taxes + work harder for less = a bad thing

outside of some techno fantasy solution where robots care for the elderly (how dystopian in itself) having more old people than young people is never a good thing

Only white birth rates. They explicitly say they each to reduce the population otherwise.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 4 weeks ago

Who is the "ruling class" in this context? Governments, billionaires, someone entirely different? Because I think you'll find it might not be the same people doing each of these things…

People in this thread talking about population issues and I ‘m just here wondering how they knew how to make more sexually attractive rabbit sex toys.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 21 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

Aussie Scientist 1: "Oi, do you think her bedroom eyes are sexy enough?"

Aussie Scientist 2: "Looks good mate, but what if we also.give her some huge melons."

Aussie Scientist 1: "Rabbits don't huge melons, that'll be unrealistic."

Aussie Scientist 2: "Maybe, or the male rabbits will get a new fetish."

The related program to control the venomous spider population was a failure because they couldn’t find a scientist who could imagine being here to fuck spiders

I checked it up and couldn't find any reference, it seems op is completely fabricated and not straight. The only interesting method that was temporarily effective was the introduction of specialized viruses, until they became more resistant. https://www.nma.gov.au/defining-moments/resources/rabbits-introduced

The list of things rabbits will fuck is a lot longer than the list of things they won't.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I had pet rabbits. Both brothers. They were commonly giving each other "piggy backs". Both were spayed.

People turn to escapism because they are struggling to make connections in the outside world, not the other way around.

If weebs aren't reproducing then it's an absolute win.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 17 points 4 weeks ago

I don't think any new intervention was needed for that.

I personally would have blamed the cost of raising children myself ngl.

[–] quarkquasar@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago (16 children)

Cost is like, towards the end of the list of why I wouldn't have kids. It's certainly there, but number 1 would probably be something like "I would never forgive myself for bringing another life into this shitty world unsolicited".

It's also a personal choice. No, I'm not talking about a person being gay, but a lot of people don't mind being single. Or if they are partnered, they choose not to have any children. I personally fall in the former category.

Problems with this theory:

  • Japan is even more affected by this phenomenon of low birth rates.
  • Not even normies are reproducing.
  • The real problem is more complicated.

I think humanity should go extinct anyway and avoiding having children seems to be a peaceful way to do so. The more we breed the more we perpetuate the agony of existence.

[–] TheSlad@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 weeks ago (6 children)

I already had two kids and let me tell you 7 years with their mother really took a toll on me. I happily fap to anime chicks now with a clean conscience I am done with real women.

You'll love what they tried next: Fencing them in (stupid long fences) and when that didn't work, biological warfare (Myxomatosis) which actually worked pretty well for a while. Enjoy your future.

I duno when it goes from stupid to impressive

That's a bloody long fence!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit-proof_fence#/media/File:Rabbit_proof_fence_in_Western_Australia.PNG

Surely Guinness Book of Records!

edit turns out it's another fence in Australia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingo_Fence

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_fence_in_the_world

Apparently we were mad about putting up fence posts back in the day

[–] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 5 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah, stupid was pulling double duty there, both stupid and awesome.
