I hope it says "Sikorsky" on it in big bold letters covering the whole thing. That would be perfect.

Looks like the methy neighbor's house who is always starting a project but can't finish any of them.

It's really such a beautiful visual metaphor of our country now.

You know... The older I get, the more I find myself rooting for the aliens in that movie.

The left looks fine on the surface but is actually ineffective, the right is a huge mess of grifting and the center is much more fascist than they will admit?

just needs a few dead Teslurs with flat tires.

Obama's rusty old Suburban, up on blocks in the front yard, grass growing up around it...

He's not building it, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin is building it. Come on, why would he pay for it when he can corrupt his way through it.

This man has no intention of ever leaving the white house

[–] WatDabney@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

The Trump White House looks like it should be in a trailer park.

With all the other mouth breathing racists

A helipad is far from the worst thing he's done. I'm sure it'll come with the usual Trump flair of fraud and circumventing process, but I can absolutely buy the argument that Marine 1 should have somewhere consistent to land that isn't just grass--not that it can't land in grass, but that it'll fuck up the grass.

[–] Canajan@piefed.ca 1 points 20 minutes ago

It’s not for the helicopter, it’s for the Orange Turd, because his plumped up ankles can’t support him walking on the uneven grass.

[–] BeanGoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 hours ago

I don't see how you can fuck up the grass more than ripping it up and paving it over.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 1 points 1 hour ago

They would put out three big metal plates for the thing to land on; so not only aiming for the right section of lawn, but getting the wheels exactly on the plates. And the new helicopters vented their exhaust downward, so burning the grass became a thing.

Is he gonna try to put his face/name on it

[–] tburkhol@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

Doesn't every WH renovation get named for the president who did it? Lincoln bedroom. Roosevelt theater. Truman bowling alley.

Trump Ballroom is obviously an occasional use facility, but "Trump heliport" is something they'll say on the news every day for a thousand years.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Should keep the gold bathroom so there is more use of the phrase"Trump toilet"

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 55 minutes ago

Bloom county had Trump nailed 40 years ago.

While that may be traditional there's also a solid chance Trumps presidency gets more or less scrubbed by successors be it following presidents or US successor states. Assuming the site isn't just abandoned out of spite and left to rot.

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world -4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Ya, this seems like a case of folks going nuts over anything done by the Trump Administration. The fact is that US Presidents have been using helicopter travel from the White House for a long time and will continue with that going forward. Having a dedicated landing pad is likely better and safer. Sure, it'll be bit of an eyesore, but the White House is supposed to be a functional home for the head of state, it's going to have a few nods to functionality.

Follow up question tho: why has this never been an issue until now, I haven't heard a single WH staffer or president bemoan the lack of a helipad. So it seems like he's just rearranging things to suit his style as usual, treating the People's House like it's his fourth vacation property.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Honestly it may very well be that they need a helipad cause Trump can't walk on uneven terrain anymore. Either that or they need a stable flat surface in case they need to wheel him about. Remember that last physically disabled president comparable to Trump's disability was FDR and he was president before helicopters were particularly reliable. Mind you I still think it's stupid for eat shit and die reasons but it is a potentially valid point if it was anyone other than Trump.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 2 points 1 hour ago

From what I understand, it didn’t actually use to be a problem; the older helicopters vented their exhaust upwards. The newer ones vent downward, and burn the grass.

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

I haven’t heard a single WH staffer or president bemoan the lack of a helipad.

You spend a lot of time hanging about with WH staffers and Presidents?

he’s just rearranging things to suit his style as usual,

Honestly, it's probably not necessary. But, Presidents do regularly make changes to the White House and its grounds. Whether we like it or not, he is the President and the current resident of the White House. Historically, that means he has some latitude in making the place his own for his stay. Remember that even fixtures like the Rose Garden were added and modified by previous residents. This is just the most recent one putting his touches on the place. And those touches can and likely will be updated by future Presidents. Let's save the outrage for stuff that actually matters.

It's just an ato to cover-up how badly he fucked up the lawn for his other vanity project

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Is he not just damaging the property repeatedly and often because Putin tells him to, otherwise Putin is releasing some Epstein videos?

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 1 points 28 minutes ago

there is nothing that could come out about trump that would affect him in any meaningful way.
