Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

I'm super glad Ted Lieu has kept up this line of questioning to keep it in the media. Needs to be said.

[–] borkborkbork@piefed.social 10 points 1 week ago

Yep. They need to start taking down a list of names of officials that are obstructing the process of law, including trump's maladies. It's national security shit, not a popularity contest, and it's irresponsible for a national leader to play fuckaround with this kind of stuff, and the enablers must be held accountable for their parts.

These are some of the lamest insults I've ever heard. You can't even explain to someone how dumb they are, because you've already forgotten what they were.

Maybe ChatGPT should take Cheung's job.

Limited vocabulary can be a sign of mental illness.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Especially the mental illness known as dementia.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It's Cheung, though.

This community's rule 1 ought to be amended to require posters to uncensor headlines. The White House Communications Director called a Congressman a "dumbass" and a "bitch." Not a "bi**h," a "bitch." And also stooped to some kindergartener-esque mangling of the Congressman's name from "Lieu" to "Lewd" while he was at it.

Readers -- especially American citizens -- should not be shielded from the full impact of that disgrace. Stop the sanewashing!

It might be to combat the algorithms they are used to fighting against. These words get posts removed automatically almost everywhere but here.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There is no such algorithm on lemmy. If you're interacting with a platform that forces self censorship like this...maybe don't.

Not directed at you specifically.

[–] 8uurg@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

There is a replace filter on lemmy that replaces words in a configurable list with removed, though. I would argue there is some kind of algorithm for this present albeit visible rather than the invisible hiding of entire posts.

Cool. So Ole' Poopypants is going to keel over soon right?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Cheung only exists in this admin so headlines like this can be written about what he says.

He's literally just a fat troll whose job is to insult people.

[–] homes@piefed.world 11 points 1 week ago

That’s what I call “winning”

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 6 points 1 week ago

I thought it was called “being alive”.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I take that massive anger in the reply as a confirmation. So he is right then?

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Everybody has a terminal illness. It's called life. Last I checked, death still comes one to a customer. I guess Trump doesn't like being reminded of the fact that he's probably definitely going to Hell.

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don’t believe in hell, but for dumpy, I’ll make an exception

He’s one of the few democratic representatives this ain’t true of

[–] dirthawker0@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I love Ted. He's very quick, he's not shy, and gets right to the point.

[–] CoolSouthpaw@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Well, the White House is the actual "bitch" and "dumbass" here.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I wonder if they will ever understand how their reactions let us know what is true. I hope not.

I will never forgive the Trump voters.

They do not deserve the company of those who tried to warn them.

They are more concerned with satiating their egos than understanding the world or how government works… or anything else at all really.

They are pure ego and emotion. They don’t care about anything else.

They don’t care.

That is the problem.

In fact, I’d go so far as to say many of them don’t even understand why WE care, so much so that it makes them angry that we do.

The people who don’t experience empathy (psychopaths), or who can simply turn their empathy off (sociopaths)… are pissed.

They’re tired of the Information Age confronting them about their lack of humanity.

They want to be evil anonymously again, or at least to have the government make it feel similar.

Nobody wants to be confronted by journalists and activists while they’re destroying the environment and exploiting other human beings.

They’d prefer it if we gave them awards and monuments instead actually.
