Its horrible how much stuff costs at thrift stores now. I remember last year I saw an Adidas track suit and it was around 100 dollars, if you were to buy it brand new you only would have had to pay 20 more dollars from the official store. It really ticked me off

Used to be thrift stores didn't have someone checking ebay for pricing information like they're a vendor at a trade show...

To be fair it also used to be that there wasn't anywhere near as many people who go through thrift stores, game stores, pawn shops, ect, to buy something to only turn around to flip it for more than what they bought it for.

It's an epidemic that's caused a runaway race to the bottom. Stores mark up prices to prevent it, people come in and resell at a markup anyways, stores raise prices because when they look it up they find their resold stuff at a markup.

The middlemanification of every nanofacet of life

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

So true. I keep seeing posts from complaining "thrifters" that they can't make much profit anymore. If an algorithm thinks you're a collector it inevitably pushes people who resell crap. I just like pointless stuff i dont want a business

Seems like they're charging $25 for all digital media

We must bring an end to Savers and the corporate thrift store

CIB Wii Sports (disc in sleeve).

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

Sorry but I'm looking for a sealed copy of Bratz: Imagine Babies Superstar.

computer monitors at goodwill cost $50 minimum

new monitors at actual electronics stores are like $60 and haven't been used for a decade ish

You can softmod the Wii using only an SD card. Wii plays Wii Games and Game Cube games natively from a usb hard drive.

Yeah, that's another thing that makes this look even more like upseller price-jacking, because the Wii is probably the #1 hacked console out there. So the demand for even popular games has gotta' be low as fuck on it relative to other systems, or at least other Nintendo systems.

This reminds me, I should watch Amadeus again

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But it comes with a Wii console and controllers, right? anakin-padme-2

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

Best they can do is a Rockband guitar controller and a DVD player.

The late 2000s is the latest “nostalgia” trend like the GameCube was a few years ago.

It’s not just gaming either. The price of G1 Monster High dolls the past couple of years is genuinely disgusting.

https://www.pricecharting.com/game/wii/wii-sports a little lower than the going rate so not surprising at all

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

What the fuck. There are like 80 million copies of this game worldwide.

[–] Chronographs@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago

Probably but it’s also what people trying to use a wii in 2026 want to play

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Maybe at one point but it's a game from when the wii just came out. Most are probably lost/damaged/in a forgotten storage

Same idea as when someone my age sees how much a charizard from the first pokemon card set is worth. "But i had one and my brother had two!" yes but where are they now?

[–] trompete@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

When the people who are nostalgic for this eventually die, it'll be worth about as much as some random roman coin or an arrow head. Probably less.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 4 points 1 week ago

How much for amadeus?

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Same price as Fafne Heaven so probably a good deal
