Lime are not Xtreme enough for their customers.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 13 points 11 hours ago

I don't understand why this is a shitpost

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 25 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

I live in Europe. I once completely crashed one, along with myself, due to a huge pothole. Even though it's totally obvious what happened based on speed data alone, they never reached out to me about it.

Should be noted it was fully functional, just probably scratched, maybe the handlebar slightly misaligned.

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm in Finland. We have pedestrian/bike paths that sometimes go under roads. Over here the underpass tunnels sometimes get flooded in the heavy rains.

In the Plague Years, I was on an app scoot when it was raining, noticed the underpass had water up to my ankles, so I said "YOLOoooo" out loud and pushed through. Even though the official app scoot company policy at the time was Will You Please Not Do That.

Hey, the scoot was completely fine! Received no complaints! You see, fleet vehicles like these are pretty sturdy compared to retail models. A little bit of water? No problem. I assume the scoots they have to fish out of the river, or find from under the snow banks when they melt in the spring, may have some mechanical problems, yeah.

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

True, they are quite durable. And it makes perfect sense. Otherwise the companies would have to spend considerably more on repairs or replacements, and potentially go out of business. Though sometimes people overestimate this sturdiness (or more likely just don't care). In Romania, or at least in Bucharest, it's quite common to find rental scooters thrown in the river. Not sure if they're able to survive it.

[–] bridgeburner@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Those scooters exist in Romania? I would've thought they'd get stolen on Day 1, scrapped for parts and sold online lol.

[–] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Impressive stuff no doubt, well done mate. And how did the scooter fare?

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It disappeared into the pothole

While we're here ... how do you go about removing the batteries from these things? (For academic purposes only, of course.)

[–] iocase@lemmy.zip 9 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (4 children)

You can remove them with the following:

1 part gasoline

1 part motor oil, ATF, diesel or whatever you have

A wine bottle

A rag soaked in gasoline

A lighter.

It won't remove them in the original condition they were in while still inside the scooter but it will remove them.

[–] parson0@startrek.website 7 points 15 hours ago

Now that's just wasteful.

You must not waste the batteries in scooters, the gold in flock cameras or the ram in data centers. I believe Jesus said this. Now pray with me

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

And wear dark tinted goggles and cover your lower face. Wear gloves.

For safety. Of course.

That's actually fair, they don't want people trashing their equipment.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 1 points 3 hours ago

So make sure to just smash up all the abandoned ones littering the streets.

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder what kind of message they zap to people's phones when the lime bikes are dumped into rivers & lakes & dumpsters?

[–] meekah@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It would be kinda stupid to rent it to do that. I think most people who do that just pick it up when its standing around somewhere

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah I was being facetious. Those things annoy me so much all I want to do is throw them into a dumpster.

[–] NateSwift@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Why? They're like so useful

[–] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 1 hour ago

Probably they prefer a manly, gas or diesel powered taxi.

[–] tresspass@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago

Never thought I'd live to see the day where they outlawed tricks smh

[–] unknownuserunknownlocation@kbin.earth 77 points 1 day ago (15 children)

I mean, to be fair, at least they give you a warning. And honestly, I think it's pretty fair to not allow things that wear down the scooter quickly.

Is this a rental thing or do you "own" the vehicle?

(Own is in quotations becsuse what you and I would consider to be ownership isn't necessarily what the LAW says is ownership)

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 2 points 2 hours ago

Sir, this is 2026.

You're not even allowed to ride your own in the UK. At least not in public areas.

[–] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 18 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Lime is one of those scooter share companies that dumped a bunch of electric scooters in city centers overnight with QR codes to use an app to pay to unlock and begin riding them

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world -1 points 1 hour ago

Which you’d think would need some sort of permit or approval process? But it looks like you can just do whatever you want if you have the $$$

I’m absolutely sick of them. I get home from work at dick o’clock and always have to make sure there’s not one lying down in the middle of my parking spot.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 99 points 1 day ago (14 children)

Huh. The chinese rideshare mopeds have a little speaker that begs you to stop violating traffic law and ride safely, but the literally only dock your score for trying to destroy the bike or abandoning it blocking traffic. You can steal 1 moped for every 100 rides and still maintain a perfect score.

"Removal of shoes is not allowed on a PaveCorp sidewalk. A $20 surcharge has been added to your walk today."

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 10 points 23 hours ago

The trick is to ride away smoothly.
