/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!
Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.
~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.
~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.
~ 3. Use spoiler tags.
Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.
~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.
~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.
~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.
~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'
~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.
Fun will now commence.

Isn’t Rom arguably the most important?
But who was his mentor?

But Rom is a union man
Never finished DN9 but have heard this joke before - what's the meaning?
[don't worry I'll finish it someday!]
There’s an episode where Rom forms a union of workers at Quarks, O’Brien describes his great great great relative as “he was more than a hero, he was a union man!”
Meanwhile Rom is facing some serious consequences for trying to start a union in a ferenghi company.
It’s a good episode!
Oh I have seen this one!
I thought maybe he did something else in the last two seasons, which I have not seen yet.
But as John Lennon said, "A working class man is something to be!"
The last two seasons are awesome and I won’t spoil them for you.
Definitely worth watching
The real difference is that Jonathan Frakes actually knows how to play trombone, and pretty well. Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner don’t play their instruments at all.
Spiner, however, is an accomplished singer.
Holy shit
Oh man it's a CRIME that we never got to hear Data sing wtf!
We did, just not enough.

Why don’t I remember this
Its from early in Nemesis during the wedding reception for Riker and Troi.
Oh thank you, still haven’t watched the movies but I’ll get to it this week
They get married????
I want the prequel where Riker was in a ska band

Riker, that is.
He's more of a Swing Revival guy, I think.
Nah, he doesn’t have the right tone for jazz trombone. At least that’s what my band teacher said.
I believe it. Trek is an amazing franchise, but it doesn't really do jazz.
I love it. Even the holodeck musicians tell him, "don't quit your day job" lol
Riker with dreds
Earl Copper?
IT GETS LONGER TO HANDLE HARDER BLOWS.
Trombone lips spread hips
Riker plays a complex instrument with no fixed resonant settings where your arm extension and lip tightness determines the note and your breath drives the volume. It is an instrument you play with your entire body.
Data plays an instrument with no fixed positions that requires careful control. It's an instrument capable of playing multiple notes at once, but requires neither lips nor lungs, perhaps indicating his slight lack of humanity.
Picard plays a recorder using someone else's hands:

No big surprise that Riker plays an instrument based on rythmic thrusting.
An artist commits.
But is it rusty?
Ackchyually 🤓☝️trombones are made of brass and therefore don't rust, they corrode. The biggest threats to a trombone slide are dents and verdigris
The biggest threats to a trombone slide are dents and verdigris
Left out band members with devious minds.

No one specified where the dents and verdigis come from

...if you know what I mean.
What is the meaning of this gif? People walking?
The context is concerning modifications Geordi made to her warp engine design as a result of "real world" application as they work their way through engineering.
Oh yeah I remember him saying that when she didn't like how he modified her design.
And then he fell in love <3
Trombone players are a bit of a mess. They can't even be trusted with valves.
Riker plays the bone
Is that really much different than Picard playing the (skin) flute?

A day late, but relevant.
Revenge of the fifth works still tho
Oh, perfect! Thanks.
