Also remember that propaganda technically doesn't have to mean anything bad.

Though to be fair, the very concept of propaganda is still a questionable one.

People forget good things can be propagandized, like the COVID vaccines. We got a slew of ads and media telling us to get it for this reason or another. From experts and data, knew the intent of the ads were for the better of man kind.

When I was a kid, commercial breaks were always labeled as "economic propaganda programing"

In the past presumably

Dude, remember all the bullshit propaganda that was being spread about the COVID vaccine? How we were all going to die or get cronenberged, magnetized, or some mind control shit or other? Where are those people now? Can they look back on all the shit they gobbled up and then spat out, and at least admit that maybe, there’s a chance that they were possibly a little bit wrong? Fucking twats.

Please proofread your memes. Two typos in this small amount of text is quite egregious.

... as long as that criticism doesn't put into question the ideas that I base my identity on.

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 21 points 9 months ago

The Secret is to not base your identity on questionable ideas.

[-] Rachelhazideas@lemmy.world 21 points 9 months ago

That's antithetical to OP's post though. The whole point is to keep an open mind and question everything.

It's not a bad thing to question your own identity. Question it, answer it, and then embrace it. That's where personal growth comes from. Everyone has been doubtful of an identity before, because at the minimum we've all been teenagers at some point.

Surpassing your own doubts about your identity is how you solidify your identity. When you've answered your own doubts, you will be ready to face anyone's doubts about you.

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 6 points 9 months ago

Of course. I was doing a joke you see, playing with the definition of "questionable" being colloquially equivalent to "doubtful or unreliable".

[-] Rachelhazideas@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Ah sorry I didn't pick up on it, but I get it now

[-] Arelin@lemmy.zip 4 points 9 months ago

The secret is to constantly scrutinize the ideas you base your identity on

I learned a word today and the word is didactic (and not didatic). Neat!

[-] ivanafterall@kbin.social 4 points 9 months ago

I'm hand-waiving your criticism away.

Man as silly as it sounds, I swear, so much of my verbiage has been expanded because of Halo games. I think in 5 the main antagonist was called The Didact and I remember looking it up.

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 11 points 9 months ago

It doesn't really work when the criticism is flat earthism or holocaust denial, but sure. Vigilance.
