Fast food businesses are looking to trim costs any way they can. Due to their location, many have become default loitering locations and social services for people who have nowhere else to go (unsupervised minors, the unhoused, and the mentally ill). the fountain drink and sauce stations become liabilities for the understaffed employees to keep clean and functional. This is why Burger King puts the drink machine access code on your receipt, so the poor can't get a water cup and fill it with pop. The neoliberal model has gutted the social safety net, so people who need services find the next closest thing: businesses with long open hours, shelter, food, drink, and implied permission to hang around.

The treatlers only see their free refill station disappear and blame woke

Meanwhile there is only greater and greater abundance than any year before. The productive output of every worker per capita has only increased. There is more to go around, not less.

Free refills? You're free to go McFuckYourself!

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No they still have free refills you just have to bring it to the counter

That seems counter to their policy of bolting ordering kiosks everywhere. If someone forgets my drink or whatever at any fast food place, it takes forever to get anyone's attention cuz literally nobody is at or paying attention to the counter. Or maybe that's the idea, make it as inconvenient as possible to get a refill in the first place.

Always blows my mind that USians had that anyway. In Europe nobody in their right mind would drink two soda servings

I remember going to five guys once and getting sick because I used the soda station there after finishing my already too large cup of soda.
