But this time the sides are reversed! What a twist!

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Nothing is reversed.

Austria, you have been warned.

They have such a struggle

You could even call it my struggle

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

You’d need to write it in German though, to capture the essence. I’m a bit rusty, but I think that’s “Mein…” something. It’ll come back to me I’m sure.

along with the rise and rise of AfD, what could go wrong!

They also said they’d fix the holes on Bahnstraße 7years ago and that stretch of road still destroys your rims. I have my doubts that the nation in love with fax machines and putting every piece of meat on the same oval bun is set to do anything extraordinary by 2039. More headlines, less reality seems to be to national standard.

[–] emmanuel_car@k.fe.derate.me 5 points 2 weeks ago

The personnel growth plan foresees expanding from 185,420 active-duty soldiers today to 260,000 by the mid-2030s

Ah, so that’s where my tax euros are going.

[–] RabbitBBQ@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

They just need some breathing room

[–] UpperBroccoli@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

It's a hoot because even now they are trying to get just a few more people to join the Bundeswehr, and are already failing really hard at it.

[–] Kennystillalive@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

Merz really preparing everything neatly for the AFD to take over.

[–] HeroicBillyBishop@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Uh oh, the Germans are mobilizing

Hopefully this time, it will be nice Germans

Need people to stop defending mass militarization and also stop defending European governments as if they aren't also massively repressive where they having more power to enforce their racism, imperialism and so on isn't a good thing.

[–] West_of_West@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like something an Imperialist would say. "Yes, lay down your arms, defences are unnecessary"

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago

No I just don't think a state that currently persecutes a whole bunch of its citizens with a rising fascist party, that is an accessory to an ongoing genocide, that supports mass austerity in say Greece, that supports trump's war on Iran I don 't think that state heavily militarizing is a good thing. Maybe I'm crazy for saying this.

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 4 points 2 weeks ago

Does your keyboard look like this?

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Idk...just because you reject militarism, that does not mean that you should not understand and cover your defense needs so you're not a useless sitting duck. Of course that full defense has to include healthcare, social programs, education, etc, so that you don't have the misery that other countries (and fascists) can weaponize against you.

Wtf are you talking about Jesse

[–] baeb66@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago

At the current rate the Russian army is going, they might advance to central Ukraine by 2039. So I understand the precautions being taken.

[–] msage@programming.dev 2 points 2 weeks ago

Oh boy, look at the time!

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world -2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Good news, wrong community?

[–] Humanius@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Some people like to joke that Germany growing their military strength should be a worrying sign for other European countries.

It's not accurate to reality though. Germany today is nothing like Germany in 1914 and 1939.

[–] ell1e@leminal.space 26 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Not like the AfD is about to become the most popular party, it's really very unlike ~1933 for sure, for sure. (/s)

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago

Yep not like they are constantly brutalizing immigrants and anyone protesting for anything. /s

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Remember, '26 Weimar Republic Germany was super liberal and fun...until...'29 crash...and finally fascism '33.

European govs need to resist the coming economic crisis/recession/depression in a way (socialism) that prevents fascists from blaming that on or giving up democracy and liberalism.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Not long ago their Bundeskanzler openly said that Germany unaveringly supports a state activelly commiting a Genocide along ethnic lines because of the dominant ethnicity of that country.

There's also plenty of videos of the abuse of force of the German police towards anti-Genocide demonstrators.

Both in terms of Racism and Authoritarianism the German views (certainly those of their political mainstream) and even practices aren't anywhere as far from their "good old days" as the rest of Europe.

More money for guns means less money for the peoples actual needs

But big scary Russia might invade

Russia has been struggling to invade the poorest country in europe for more then 5 years now, what makes you think they can invade the richest country in europe?

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

The US has also threatened to invade nato territory
