I'd definitely watch that.
Even tho its a long movie, it did feel short and fast after reading the book lol
I want to see the courtroom showdown scene between Stratt and the copyright holders.
I was so sad this wasn't there. It was such a badass scene in the book. It was effectively just STRATT pulling the Ron Swanson "I can do what I want" and winning.
Stratt's characterisation in the film was very different. She came off as just another member of the hail mary team instead of the badass inhuman utilitarian boss she was in the book. A change for the worse IMO, though I think I'm in the minority there as one of her new scenes is supposedly very popular.
Grace was also quite different for that matter, though I'm more conflicted about that change.
it was a nice and quiet watch in the theater. nobody said a word for the entire thing and afterwards everyone left silently. that's how you know it's good.
See also: funerals, corporate "town hall" meetings, and court cases.
(I've not seen it, I've only read Weir's book, so I'm not seriously casting any judgement, I'm just amusing myself -- but I was a little dismayed by the huge spoilers in the trailers.)
If you want to go down a weird rabbit hole, seek out the Japanese marketing stuff which is turns the "Ryan Gosling and Rocky are wacky room mates" up to 11. Does it have anything to do with the movie? No, but it is very Japanese
Saw it in IMAX, felt worth it. Loved the book, loved the movie, super disappointed in the author. Might not of done either of the first two things if I knew he was going on "anti-woke" podcasts bragging how he doesn't write politics.
Ya know, the one about averting catastrophic climate change.
wait really? i hadn't heard heard about this
Jesse Gender has the best take on it, because there is a bit of nuance since Weir did apologize for some of it, but only for the parts that might affect his ability to write TV or movies. Not for apparently being friends with Critical Drinker, inviting him to premiere, talking up his book and going through anti-woke talking points with him.
Oof, that's not great. The critical drinker is such a loser shit-heel.
Yikes. There's only a handful of channels I block on YouTube and Critical Drinker is one of them. I'm good not paying money for this movie. Yo ho, yo ho.
yeah the only thing i've found is soundbites and others adding "woke" to what he said, and him apologising for those things. i don't know what the podcast is but if that's the only thing people seem to be talking about it doesn't seem like the other stuff can be worse, right?
i'll watch jessie's video, i usually like her stuff even if we disagree on a lot of things.
That movie was speeding through all the events. It's an ok movie but it really needed to be longer.
It’s already in my Plex library.
I’d rather wait than watch a telesync cam rip.
I'm not sure what Confused_Emus may be referring to, but I can tell you that there is a better version than a telesync cam rip already available. Otherwise, I completely agree with you.
Ah I see that now. My private tracker didn’t have it because the occasional hardcoded Russian subs.
Correct. There are English subs, but occasionally you'll also see Russian. I typically use Usenet these days, and I occasionally search through qBit, but nothing was showing up and I'm not sure why. But, it is available on a popular DLing website.
Ikr...already seen in the comfort of home.
Me too. Enjoyed it a lot.
Since it'll still be in theaters, going to find time to go see it. Worth it.
That movie is already streaming from my home media server.
Good quality available or shitty cam recordings?
All I've found are shitty cam recordings. Granted, it's better than the cam recordings 20 years ago, but still shit.
Everything streams on the high seas.
Me and my family really wanted to watch it in theaters but they only hsd it in hungarian in hungary(even tho they usually have it with english audio in some cities) so i decided to just sail the high seas. I got a rip somehow that wasnt camera recorded tho pretty sure the audio was.
I'm happy to wait. I read the book, I know what happens. Also, I don't have any "others" to share it with.
(I don't care how good the telesync version is supposed to be.)
Having read the book will help you enjoy the movie. The plot closely follows the book, but it doesn’t have time to fully explain why they’re doing what they’re doing. The book is mostly the main character’s internal monologue describing his process and reasoning while troubleshooting one problem after another. The movie just shows him doing all that stuff with no explanation.
Anyone else feel like the book moved at kind of a breakneck pace compared to The Martian?
Like, The Martian went through this whole thing about using ASCII instead of the alphabet with the speak and spell...to communicate with people Watney knew personally. Meanwhile Grace and Rocky just...learn each other's languages. "I wrote a program in about 6 hours."
..yeah the share it with others were you have to be completely quiet and not interact at all.
Ill wait for it to get to one of my streamers.
Add to that, the only “affordable” theater in my area just shut down. Like a week before this came out. I’m not paying $60+ for 2 hours in seats not built for a tall person.
I’ll wait for the 4K UHD disk. Let me watch it without distractions of a-holes with crinkly wrappers.
Luckily there is a perfect copy available on the high seas
I swear there hasn't been this much insanity since VistaVision vs Todd-AO

Most of the PLFs (Premium Large Formats) are gimmicks. The only ones that really matter are IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 70mm if you like analog film instead of digital.

Yeah I'd much rather watch it at home where I don't have Kyle, three aisles up, call one of his buddies for half the movie. Fucking Kyle.
And pay a shit ton of money for popcorn and Doritos. Fucking 100 Bucks or more easy.
