"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Windows is in general. Completely unoptimized trash.

"Don't you guys have ~~phones~~ RAM?"

And let's not forget that the RAM problems are spilling over hard drives, too. I wonder where are the "just buy more <RAM/storage>" crowd that always piped up whenever people complained about shit code and programs hogging resources

Heard about it? They're an integral part of the cabal precipitating it.

Conspiracy theory: Maybe they want to make running Windows locally practically impossible, so you'd have to rent a cloud PC and use a client to connect to it.

[–] Liketearsinrain@lemmy.ml 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It's not a conspiracy theory when they literally sell thin clients for Windows.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

And they're not the only ones. *glares at Chromebooks*

Linux users: look at what they need to do to match 10% of our power!

[–] SalamenceFury@piefed.social -1 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

It's literally one PowerShell command.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 17 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

So, basically impossible. Because I have it on good authority that Windows users are absolutely incapable of using a command prompt.

[–] SalamenceFury@piefed.social 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not the average Windows user, man. And neither is 90% of the people who are annoyed with this AI crap.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Then why is "needing" to touch the command line even once trotted out as an absolute deal-breaker for Linux? You don't get to have it both ways!

[–] SalamenceFury@piefed.social 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

I don't find that a deal breaker at all, and anyone who does is a weakling whose children will not survive the winter. Hell, I have Linux in my study laptop.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

I just think it's funny how people will do all sorts of complicated nonsense to work around Windows' enshittification, yet demand perfection from Linux without lifting a finger.

Running a script does not count as one command.

[–] eli@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Yeah, just a tiny 4000+ line script doesn't count as one command, I agree!

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I used one of these tools and I remember a Windows update just putting it back anyway.

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

I prefer shut up 10++ but any of them that work are good.

Here’s the thing, Microsoft has innovated on how to produce Electron apps, and managed to run chromium in chromium, to run the new copilot app. And yet, people still hate them for their noble achievements! /s

[–] b34k@lemmy.world 12 points 22 hours ago

Oh they heard… they just didn’t care

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago

That sounds like something MS is too rich to understand.
