Under communism the state run media will retroactively change information to suit their narrative 1984

This is what scares me the most, to be honest. Trump boasting and making vague threats is one thing, but if the media starts trying to manufacture consent for a nuclear strike...

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 7 points 5 hours ago

Well there you have it they started. I agree this is fucked.

As an American I unironically want president Xi to launch a dongfeng missile into the pentagon. Do I get a quote in the BBC now

[–] ThermonuclearHoxha@hexbear.net 3 points 5 hours ago

xi-shining: You Americans have nukes at home to use on yourselves. Why are you waiting on us to rescue you?

[–] BattleshipPokemon@hexbear.net 50 points 13 hours ago

@BattleshipPokemon, also in my 20s and living in London, says: "About them hitting energy infrastructure, using an atomic bomb, or levelling Britain. My honest reaction is that I'm OK with all of these."

if the bbc were nuked I'd be okay with that

[–] DasRav@hexbear.net 20 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

It's really a two for one deal there, London and the BBC. Total bargain!

[–] WittyProfileName2@hexbear.net 9 points 12 hours ago

London and the BBC.

Possibly Cardiff instead if Iran just really hates Dr Who.

Capitalism is a death cult

Weird how they don't write stuff like this about the Islamic monarchy of Saudi Arabia

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 31 points 14 hours ago (5 children)

is it just me who thinks it probably wasn't actually the BBC who made it up? I reckon they probably just deliberately, blindly swallowed what some gusano told them with zero fact checking to maintain a facade of plausible deniability. Not like there's any shortage of absolute freaks willing to just say random shit. Not that it matters, it's functionally identical.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 9 points 9 hours ago

Could have also been a source from the CIA or its proxies, who give "tips" to journos all the time.

[–] murmelade@lemmy.ml 51 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Who made it up is irrelevant, it's that they chose to publish it to shape public opinion.

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 20 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at at the end. It was purely idle speculation, not any kind of apologia for the beeb.

The BBC has had a persian propaganda outlet for decades. It's serving its pupose here

[–] brain_in_a_box@hexbear.net 19 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

They actually stealth edited the quote in the article to something less insane, so if it wasn't made up before, it is now

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 10 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

Isn't squirrel full of shit tho?

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 10 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Squirrel is very curmudgeonly and sometimes too uncharitable, but I would not describe them as full of shit.

[–] bunnossin@hexbear.net 16 points 11 hours ago

Yeah but that doesn't make them factually wrong about things like this.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 6 points 10 hours ago

This is true tho
