Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

AI slop? The text looks a bit wonky and the ISBN is invalid. It's either 978-0220331132 or 978-0220331432, I can't really tell but neither is valid. Besides, the last digit looks like it's about to fall off.

But still, the book's physical condition itself looks realistic. Look at the bottom left corner or the spine for example, there are lots of tiny defects a real book would have. So the image and therefore the cover must both be real.

Yet look at the ridges on the spine! You can't (easily) achieve this with regular printing paper. It has to be a real paper book cover. But there's no way anyone would AI generate the fucking ISBN bar code and sell it like this, is there? After all, I can't see any pages either though which indicates the cover is standalone.

I'm confused.

Or maybe it's a non-AI fake. Maybe made using traditional image-editing software, maybe an arts-and-crafts project.

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That doesn't explain the wonky looking p in the word "exploring" though.

Also I'm fairly certain you live in Germany which means it's 4 am when you replied. Go to sleep!

[–] Leonixster@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago (3 children)

It's not the P that looks wonky, it's the fact that it says "ekploring". It's a very AI type of error for an angled X to be turned into a K instead

Yeah, everything else has an explanation, but k is nowhere near x on a keyboard and it is used correctly multiple times. The description is also generic af and doesn't tell you anything about the book.

It says "ekpression" on the front cover side, but exploring on the back cover has a p with an unclosed loop on it

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think we're referring to different words. Look at the text in the back (which is apparently called "blurb") - the p is not closed and if it were closed, it would be way too "big".

You are right about the x having become a k on the front though, I didn't spot that.

Oh yeah, mb, I was too sleepy when I made that comment lol

[–] Zelaf@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

And it is 6 now, I should def be asleep

[–] laserm@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Nowadays you would replace C with Rust

[–] HexaBack@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

what would learning BASIC make you

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

your unique identity

Unique? Being a femboy is mainstream now, femboys are a dime a dozen, you'll be just another femdrop in the fembocean

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'd ask "when will chuds gatekeep being a femboy", but I guess they already do.

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're only a femboy if you were raised in the femboy-region of France, otherwise you're just a sparkling boy

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It's more like they get extremely angry, when a femboy isn't racist and transphobic.

What happens if you age out of being a femboy? What are you then?

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (3 children)
[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago

And then you will become addicted to spice and religious propaganda sewn into your culture for hundreds of years.

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

The opposite of a hydwohomie.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

a trans girl

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

According to popular, former fem boy finnster they all come out as trans after upto like 6 years.

Please, do feel free to provide a counter example.

[–] espurr@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

Can't really think of a counter example, interesting conjecture indeed!

[–] magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

Who says you have to age out?
