If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"

Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.

Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.

We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged.

See the pinned paper on Shitposting as Public Pedagogy if you want the academic case for why this works.

OMG they are absolutely ROUND. Someone should make Christmas tree ornaments like that

They can actually make pretty decent pets. I had a friend who rescued one from their cat, and he was a super friendly guy. He loved climbing the curtains to fly onto your shoulder.

They're kinda like sugar gliders except they have a much less restrictive diet, don't have to have a companion (they're generally solitary), and can survive temperatures lower than 70F.

They are escape artists, though. Meaning enclosures, buddy was perfectly happy being an inside squirrel.

I would definitely get some of those!

* Grabs Pokeball *

I know a Pokemon when I see one.

I’ve never considered UV light being a higher proportion of the sunlight hitting an area during dawn and dusk. Makes sense if I consider how atmospheric filtering is what gives rise to the experience of consistent color(s) in the sky in the first place. I guess out of sight out of mind is a common starting point, especially for electromagnetic effects

I mean I've never tried so can I is another question. I'm not currently glowing.
