MODERATORS

We urge Paramount to listen to the voices of millions of fans who are yearning for more adventures in the Starfleet Academy. Renewing the show for a third season is not just a business decision; it's about continuing a legacy, honouring storytelling, and nurturing a global community of Trekkers.

Really a petition on a data collection site and an AI photo 🙄

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Do you happen to know any alternatives to suggest?

[–] green_red_black@slrpnk.net 1 points 29 minutes ago

Yeah. An actual image of the show. And a spreadsheet that is readable

Am I the only one who thinks that a change.org petition would be way less effective than a TOS-style actual-paper-letter-writing campaign?

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 2 points 12 hours ago

I did both I'm also doing a hunger strike outside Paramount's headquarters

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I can't remember which show it was, but fans wrote in letters on KFC bucket packaging because KFC was a major advertiser on the show.

[–] mulcahey@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

So for Paramount Plus, guess we have to write in on... Trump letterhead?

[–] haverholm@kbin.earth 2 points 14 hours ago

You could be right. But then, why can't we have both?

Starfleet Academy fucking REEKS of being one of those instances where someone had a story concept that was too weak to stand on its own so they slapped a beloved existing IP over it and called it a day. I'm glad its getting canceled, that sort of thing should never be rewarded. It's lazy and insulting to the fans of whatever IP they stole to try to prop up their mediocre story.

I'm with you, i couldn't watch past 3rd episode, it was just too cringe inducing for me. I love Strange New Worlds though, i don't want that atrocity that is Academy poison the Star Trek well.

I don't know, Im not a fan of the Kurtzman-era Trek. I'd prefer it if they'd create a series that's closer in tone to the earlier stuff.

While that may be your view, I hope you’re not going to work against the show or shows like it either.

Because very many people who between 40 and 55 did brigade against this show, gave it very negative reviews, and discouraged others from watching it without watching a full episode themselves. To the point that Psychology Today wrote a feature article The Trouble With Review Bombing.

Anyone over 35 is not in the key demographic. I dare say that’s most 90s Star Trek fans and most of us on this board.

But if we go out of our way to say that if it’s not made for us we’ll attack it relentlessly so that younger, target viewers won’t even try it, then it’s not going to serve anyone.

And yes, I have seen the entire season of SFA. I watched it with my partner and one of our GenZ kids. And I have signed the petition.

They just said they didn’t like it. Chill.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (3 children)

That is your opinion.

I’m a huge fan of Kurtzman and all the New Trek that he created. I love them all. I often rewatch Discovery, Picard, even Academy. I need it. I need this. The entire world is gone to shit, and his shows, his creations, are the only thing that sooth me right now.

These comments, like the one you just made, are exactly why Academy has been cancelled, why Discovery was cut short, and so forth.

I truly dislike Star Wars. And yet, you’ll never see me bitching about it in their forums. I don’t think about it at all until something about it shows up, and even then, I just ignore it and move along, like any normal person would do.

If you don’t like it, if it’s not for you, then just don’t watch it, but shut the fuck up!!!! Let those who enjoy it, enjoy it.

Yes, "you’re entitled to your opinion etc.", but do you absolutely have to ruin it for everyone else?!? You’re part of the problem here.

You, and all others with their continuous vile comments, bear part of the responsibility in the cancellation of a beloved, respected show.

[–] blunderworld@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago

Damn, I never said you shouldn't like the show, or that it's objectively bad. I just expressed my preference for the direction of future trek projects, in what I thought was a relevant thread.

You know it's okay to enjoy something without making it your entire personality right? Leave your unfounded generalisations in the trash where they belong.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

That is your opinion. Your argument that only your opinion may be spoken is invalid.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)
[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Yes it is. You told anyone who doesn’t like it to shut the fuck up.

If you don’t like it, if it’s not for you, then just don’t watch it, but _shut the fuck up!!!!_

Now let me get some🍿 and watch you dance about trying to argue that you didn’t say this.

[–] firelight@startrek.website 0 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

It's fine if people voice their opinions whether in agreement or disagreement.

From his perspective, you're part of the problem because you're advocating for resources to be spent on what you prefer over what he prefers.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Read again my previous comment.

[–] firelight@startrek.website 2 points 8 hours ago

I'm saying you need to touch grass and let people voice their own opinion on a TV show.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

No, we’re telling you to maybe not jump down the throat of anyone who says “I dunno, I didn’t like it” like they are actively trying to kill your puppy. This post is taking up space in everyone’s feed, calling them to go sign. There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone saying “eh, nah.”
