/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Recently went though this, rewatched TOS, TAS, and the first six movies for the first time as an adult. Holy crap, the number of references in all of my favorite media throughout my entire life that have been flying over my head was staggering. Even lyrics in my teenage emo songs were lifted straight from TOS dialogue.

You can’t say that and not name drop any songs!

The one that was most shocking to me was the 'cement golashes' line from Brand New's Luca, lifted straight from Scotty's mouth in the episode with the 1930's mobster planet.

A thousand thank you's for introducing me to that song. That was absolutely hilarious!

You're welcome. Here's another good one if you enjoy Star Trek parody:

How do you even tell which tropes they created themselves and which ones already existed?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Easy. Before Star Trek there was no fanfic.

What would you call the Book of Mormon?

Nephi being Joe's Mary Sue helped get me out of that cult

"Gee, golly, gosh, gloriosky," thought Mary Sue as she stepped on the bridge of the Enterprise and invented fanfiction. "Here I am, the youngest lieutenant in the fleet - only fifteen and a half years old."

I watched a documentary and Gene Roddenberry didn't want the flying saucer trope. That's how we have nacelles and deflector dish added to the saucer section.

The shooter will move (slowly) backwards because of the recoil. Forever.
