A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

I didn't enjoy that studios used DLSS instead of optimization, but holy hell, this is awful. I will love to set every single DLSS 5.0 flagship title to ignore on Steam, at least it'll be easy to spot since everything will look like it's generated by the same chatgpt prompt.

"I love when my videogames have no art direction and just look like generic 'realistic' dolls! Yum! More AI, please!" - a sentence written by a NPC

I can see some sick fucks being excited about this because there are people who complain when the female character isn't fuckable enough. Those people get their AI porn filter.

Because that's literally what it is. Nvidia also purposefully chose to put the "dlss 5 off" side with low graphics so it would look "impressive" when it literally turned Grace into a korean pornstar.

Imagine when this comes to movies. You can queue up a bleak-as-fuck arthouse film about orphans in a Romanian slum and, thanks to the magic of AI, the characters all look like Scientologists from Venice Beach.

What can it do to summertime saga? 😅

What is it you don't like? Personally I think the before and after looks a lot better after. Is it that it's ai or do  you just prefer the old look?

I think the face is what's most off-putting. It looks like straight from any of the generic "AI girlfriend" mobile ads you see. The environment is alright-ish I guess, for me personally it's a bit too much into an uncanny valley too, because it looks too smooth, too perfect. It seems realistic, but the more and closer you look it feels wrong, because you don't have that perfection in real life either, and the AI takes all of the realism and detail out of the picture.

Try taking any picture you have and smack it into an AI upscaler anywhere, and try to upscale it to x4 or x8, and compare the pictures side-by-side directly. Faces lose any kind of wrinkle, detail, markings. The generated image loses all identity it had, and while objectively it looks "good" as in "it's upscaled correctly, it's smooth and looks detailed" all and any of the details that give that image something are actually lost. It just has that "AI look", the generic, hyper realistic "perfection".

Two things.

First, is that - yes, the after looks much more detailed and crisp, but it also looks airbrushed and fake in the way that most AI-generated people look. You get to recognize it fairly quickly if you look for it, and it's become so ubiquitous that people are getting sick of it.

Second is that it will make EVERY game that uses it look like the same airbrushed and fake people. Yes, there will be some individuality, but it will push each game that uses it closer to the same look and style.

On the FIFA example it actually look good. The "wet skin" look that photographers love and AI plaster everywhere, is more realistic than the default skin texture they used.

Though EA could probably fix that without AI by not being lazy.
