Technically, this would be nuking the UAE and Yemen

Oh god they are trying to do Plowshare 2.0.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 14 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I thought this motherfucker was dead.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 7 points 8 hours ago

I mean it's such a braindead take that he might as well be

It's gotta be lead.... Right? Right?!

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Absolutely has to be lead poisoning. We need to get these insane fuckers tested for it and have them committed if it shows in their system. That may be exactly what is needed and how to "peacefully" get these weird fuckers to retire.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Don’t worry, they want/plan to put lead back into fuel so it affects an entire new generation

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Nah. They can't, they would get automatic lawsuits. Leaded gas is not only banned in the US, but globally. It has one exception right now and that is usage in piston engine aircraft. Even classic cars and classic tractors have to convert.

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

And when is some international or domestic law stopped them?

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 1 points 24 minutes ago

It happens all the time. If you make an engine that runs on leaded gas you will get fined. They are banned. Even classic cars must be converted. The only exception are old piston engine airplanes ... and those get banned in 2030.

What a goddamned fucking idiot.

How much you wanna bet he called Trump and personally made this fucking deranged suggestion to him?

[–] StrongHorseWeakNeigh@piefed.social 52 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Is newt Gingrich even still alive

Edit: holy shit he actually tweeted that. It was so outlandish I just assumed it was fake.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 95 points 15 hours ago (6 children)

"Yes, we're irradiated now, but gas is under $3/gal."

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 11 hours ago

The ~~geiger counter~~ Dow will be over 50,000!

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 24 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

Well it would be Dubai and the Saudis that would be irradiated. They should be fine with it right?

[–] axh@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

That would guarantee a bright future for Dubai

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 16 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

the gas would likely be irradiated too. I heard of an early proposal to detonate nukes deep underground in the tar sands to bring the oil to the top, theoretically it would work but radioactive oil.

[–] autriyo@feddit.org 3 points 4 hours ago

The Americans actually tried that with some gas reserves, and as expected nuclear fracking increased yields, but radioactive gas.

So they're the only country who has nukes themselves for economic reasons...

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Not irradiated! It's been treated with Shell Atomic Boost!

Just look for the glowing pump.

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago

This is the talent McDonald's marketing needs.

fuck them saudis and their sportswashing

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 10 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

Less than that. They'd have to sell this particular gas at a discount, considering it would be radioactive after making this detour.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago

You’re forgetting the power of marketing. Call it “Atomic Premium”, claim it’s formulated specifically for giant trucks with fake balls attached to the hitch, get a few hick-hop artists to name drop it in songs about cruising down red dirt roads, and run a meme campaign implying only woke blue-haired lib trannies with nose rings oppose irradiated gas. They’d drink it if they thought doing so would “own the libs”.

It's not. This has been proposed multiple times throughout history. The U.S. program, named Project Plowshare, was active from the late 1950s to the 1970s and explored various peaceful applications for nuclear explosives. It was built on ideas from older, British and German plans. The Russians also had their own plans. This is not a new idea.

For those who don't know about it, Project Plowshare was a cold war project where the US investigating the use of nuclear weapons for geo engineering projects.

Here is a WTYP Podcast episode about it:

I've stopped asking if people are this stupid, because yes, they are.

But, I think this is more about sowing fear, than a serious suggestion.

I keep trying to persuade myself, in spite of clear evidence to the contrary, that people are not this stupid. But, it doesn't work.

Has he ever looked at a map? The only way I could see this happening is by going through the most populated parts of UAE.

Sounds increadibly expensive.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 6 points 15 hours ago

Omg, I absolutely love the idea of fuel exhaust that’s even more radioactive than it already is. I just love it so much I could die.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 2 points 12 hours ago

There is a price between $10m/kg and $100m/kg that Iranians sell enriched uranium to US to satisfy US denuclearization aims, and Iran gets its reparations/reconstruction concession, and full trade access to the world. Of course Bibi will keep saying they are 2 weeks away from a weapon, but you have to fuck bibi.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Now, I know what the woke deep state is going to say, and I want to save you the trouble of listening to them.

“The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty?” Never ratified it. Even if we did, who cares. Next.

“The environmental impact?” Mr. Secretary, Iranian oil is leaking everywhere. Tankers are on fire near Fujairah. This approach is constructive destruction.

“Radiation?” Radiation is the most overblown left-wing conspiracy since climate change. The Plowshare’s 1962 underground Sedan test fallout reached South Dakota in 1962 and South Dakota is fine. Went for Trump by thirty points. Plus, the residual glow keeps Iran from trying anything funny near the new channel.

The views expressed above do not necessarily represent those of anyone with brain cells.

This is hilarious. Heh.

I don't buy Gingrich's earnesty. He must be trolling too. Most Republicans are doing it on Twitter now, so it fits the pattern.

Radiation is the most overblown left-wing conspiracy since climate change

oh Jesus

as if cooking the planet with CO2 and poisoning the ecosystem with PFAs wasn't enough, they're gonna justify just fucking nuking us

great
