chuds will literally believe a video game NPC is a real person before they believe the same of a woman or black person

[–] groKKK@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

Westerners will believe a video game NPC is a real person before they believe the same of the Boers who are currently facing white genocide.

The people in 14th century paintings seem conscious.

Is this art or a simulated universe?

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Super Mario 64 proves this theory.

in a few million years when octopi evolve long lifespans and a way to pass on their culture between generations, we'll have a big laugh about all of this

[–] context@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago

I want to be friends with an octopus so badly. A few million years too early sicko-wistful

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He's some weird techno libertarian.

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

hence the human leather cowboy hat industry in his game lol

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yah know it's hard to gauge.

Rimworld is clearly trying to be SciFi Dwarf Fortress, and Dwarf Fortress has mechanics for some pretty Dark Fantasy shit, like the whole thing with Elves being cannibalistic. So like, Cyborgs who harvest human body parts? Psionic drones that make people go mad and rip others apart? Seems like some good SciFi-Horror shit.

But then you hear about the Dev's weird politics and you go brow

For what it's worth, industrial mermaid bone farming was a bridge too far for Tarn.

like yeah I'm pretty sure he's an explicitly anti communist chud but lmao

yeah, he most likely is, although he doesnt go daily on rants about the eeeevil insidious postmodernist judeo marxists or fucking whatever, he's a self described libertarian and comes pre-packaged with all the libertarian beliefs and quirks, like the biologically 16 year old female pawns being hardcoded to find older male pawns more romantically compatible and creepo shit like that.

the one you're thinking of though is probably Oskar, who assembles the very popular Vanilla+ modpack and frequently collaborates with the dev team for DLC updates, he's added an expansion to the Ideology addon that has an ''Authoritarian'' religion that unlocks fucking, i guess vintage european Regime aesthetics? it also adds an iron cross or a red star for you to choose as a flag or symbol, lmaao.

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Oskar, who assembles the very popular Vanilla+ modpack

Oskar Potocki is an artist who I believe actually has a job at Ludeon making assets for them, and who's the project lead of the Vanilla Expanded series of mods. He's kind of a whiny asshole with Tynan-level brainworms and a lot of bad ideas.

Bro freaking the fuck out then I show him a VHS of a dude in a room

[–] WeedReference420@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh good, looking forward to the game being ruined by AI slop in a future update

[–] BarrelsBallot@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 day ago

The modding community will never let that game die

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

Damn, he's close to independently developing the SCP wiki.

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (8 children)

Everything I learn about the Rimworld dev increases my regret for having bought Rimworld

[–] somename@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don’t feel bad honestly. Rimworld is a community game in many ways. If I have 200 mods loaded, each with a different person’s creative vision, is it really just Tynan’s thing anymore?

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Played a lot of Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress in my day, and the difference is that the Rimworld devs have always seemingly reveled in acts of cruelty while the DF devs tend to nerf them.

But I agree on the community aspect, not that every part of the community is good, but it's a big community with a lot of good in it.

[–] SummerIsTooWarm@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

While it's too late for you: remember that Rimworld with the 4 big expansions is on GOG. There is it least one site that archives games from there. Sadly, only the windows version, but rimworld runs fine with wine and bottles.

this is Façade by Andrew Stern and Michael Mateas

[–] WhyEssEff@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

it's so fucking funny to say this as a video game developer. the fact that you do not realize that you have described, quite literally, NPC behavior as akin to consciousness is making me wonder if you actually coded the game you're selling

[–] WhyEssEff@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

you know what else is a simulated universe? One where you talk to people in the computer and they talk back? Where those people in the computer pace around? Get bored? Eat? Ask questions?Oblivion, which can run on a single computer with a 22-year old graphics card and 512 megabytes of RAM todd

The Mechanical Turk really seems conscious.

Is this a machine or a simulated universe?

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is the intellectual equivalent of like a male gorilla threatening to beat up his own reflection, this sucks lmao who the fuck is this guy to talk

Imagine that one puzzle from SOMA except the sim doesn't shut off when they start descending into madness

[–] MeetMeAtTheMovies@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)
