Rimworld is clearly trying to be SciFi Dwarf Fortress, and Dwarf Fortress has mechanics for some pretty Dark Fantasy shit, like the whole thing with Elves being cannibalistic. So like, Cyborgs who harvest human body parts? Psionic drones that make people go mad and rip others apart? Seems like some good SciFi-Horror shit.
But then you hear about the Dev's weird politics and you go

yeah, he most likely is, although he doesnt go daily on rants about the eeeevil insidious postmodernist judeo marxists or fucking whatever, he's a self described libertarian and comes pre-packaged with all the libertarian beliefs and quirks, like the biologically 16 year old female pawns being hardcoded to find older male pawns more romantically compatible and creepo shit like that.
the one you're thinking of though is probably Oskar, who assembles the very popular Vanilla+ modpack and frequently collaborates with the dev team for DLC updates, he's added an expansion to the Ideology addon that has an ''Authoritarian'' religion that unlocks fucking, i guess vintage european Regime aesthetics? it also adds an iron cross or a red star for you to choose as a flag or symbol, lmaao.

Everything I learn about the Rimworld dev increases my regret for having bought Rimworld
I don’t feel bad honestly. Rimworld is a community game in many ways. If I have 200 mods loaded, each with a different person’s creative vision, is it really just Tynan’s thing anymore?
Played a lot of Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress in my day, and the difference is that the Rimworld devs have always seemingly reveled in acts of cruelty while the DF devs tend to nerf them.
But I agree on the community aspect, not that every part of the community is good, but it's a big community with a lot of good in it.
While it's too late for you: remember that Rimworld with the 4 big expansions is on GOG. There is it least one site that archives games from there. Sadly, only the windows version, but rimworld runs fine with wine and bottles.

it's so fucking funny to say this as a video game developer. the fact that you do not realize that you have described, quite literally, NPC behavior as akin to consciousness is making me wonder if you actually coded the game you're selling
you know what else is a simulated universe? One where you talk to people in the computer and they talk back? Where those people in the computer pace around? Get bored? Eat? Ask questions?
Oblivion, which can run on a single computer with a 22-year old graphics card and 512 megabytes of RAM
