Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. 5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

Don't ignore the fact Trump is insane, petty, vicious and the POTUS. I doubt anyone there wants to become the individual focus of Trump's ire, especially after the women's rejection put him in a foul mood. If anyone has had to dance around a violent parent's feelings, I'm sure you can understand.

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 33 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I’d like to see him out on the ice against them. No, really. Him toddling around, falling, breaking all his bones. I’d love to see that.

[–] Stormy@thelemmy.club 9 points 8 hours ago

He literally posted an AI video on himself in a suit playing ice hockey a few hours ago.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

As they beat him with their sticks. "Accidentally."

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 10 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

One good cross check into the boards & he'd pop like a balloon...

Big smear on the ice...

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 15 points 10 hours ago

Eh, frankly, I wouldn't want to go to the White House to smell him anyway.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 151 points 15 hours ago (16 children)

I'm Canadian and we lost to both US teams. Nobody in my nation is mocking either of the US teams. Honestly the women's goal tending was nuts. I'd like to see trump last 5 minutes on the ice with one of those ladies dancing the puck around him.

Between this and trump's recent voting comments, women in the US should be very concerned.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 hours ago

The is no way trump could stand for two seconds on skates, let alone use them on ice.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 43 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

1/3 of US women are totally cool with it.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Hell, a majority of white women voters.

Probably partly because of the Dem leadership's obsession with fruitless pandering to wine moms, people keep forgetting about the Karens.

Most notable was Trump’s performance among white women. The Harris campaign actively targeted the group in the hope that protecting abortion rights would garner their support.

Yet such support failed to materialize, with Trump winning among white women 53% to 46% over Harris, with that group making up the largest overall voting bloc at 40%, according to AP VoteCast.

It really sucks. Even though it is a small majority, it is disgusting to think that 53 of of 100 white women would prefer Trump to Harris.

For comparison:

White and Suburban Men

The Pew Research Center found that Trump in 2016 had a 30-point advantage over Clinton among white men. While Trump still had a sizable advantage in that demographic in 2020, Biden did make some gains and shrunk the margin to 17 points.

So far, Harris appears to have lost some of that ground in 2024, according to the AP. White men who supported Trump made up 59% of those surveyed as of Wednesday afternoon, compared to 39% for Harris – a margin that was smaller than Clinton’s eight years ago but still larger than Biden's in 2020.

I don't understand these numbers. 59 + 39 != 100. Did 2% vote for a 3rd party?

Now more than ever, there’s a magnificent difference between the people representing the country and the people running the country.

Good on you all.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 8 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I am mocking the people who are mocking us allegedly mocking them, however

as for the men's game.. goddamn, hellebuyck again. what a performance. and those missed opportunities on the wide open net hurt. it happens... but it hurts.

unfortunately, I've literally not seen a single non-inflammatory comment from an American yet on social media. obviously there's the algorithm factor of boosting inflammatory shit.. but it's still a bad look. I have told off a few Canadians for being (unprompted) dicks, though

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 3 points 10 hours ago

i am but one American so the sample size of what i'm seeing is limited, meaning the value of what i am saying is limited. we're a little pre-occupied right now to care about icey slidey sports. there's even a major part of me that was only paying attention to hockey second hand since my retiree motehr was telling me about it. she was disappointed Canada lost. she sees Canada as a nation of brethren separated from us by an imaginary border and our unlawful regime as a threat to all of the things she loved about the country we called home for 4 years in the 90s.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 11 hours ago

Didn't you guys get men's doubles curling? That was a hell of a match to watch!

[–] SculptusPoe@lemmy.world 13 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

I'd like to see Orange T skate across the ice from one entrance to the other. We would get to have President JD Vance this month if he did try it.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 11 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Careful what you wish for. I worry JD is just as evil if not worse but also more cognitive.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (2 children)

He absolutely holds ideas that are as bad or worse. He doesn't have the charisma or the network to inact it though.

The Usians are sore losers and bad winners.

[–] tootoughtoremember@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I'd like to see trump last 5 minutes on the ice with one of those ladies dancing the puck around him.

Well you might not see him taking on the women's team, but you can see him playing against the men.

What a jackass. The US team should have not laughed though.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 20 points 8 hours ago

They guys who were gleefully partying with pedophile protectors? Yeah I think the rot might go a bit deeper than we think.

I am pleased that media outlets seem to be settling on photos of Trump looking like he's about to stuff his piehole as their go to stock photo. Hilarious.

I am horrified that my news feed is a stream of photos of Trump looking like he's about to stuff his piehole.

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 hours ago

That picture is horrifying, though.

Trump's puppeteers should fire their taxidermist.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 8 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

The only photos of him with his mouth shut are when he's sleeping.

[–] waddle_dee@lemmy.world 24 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

"just say it's locker room talk, or something"

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

Works every time. For him. For some stupid reason.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 20 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

What did he actually say? Article is paywalled

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 31 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

“We’ll do the White House,” Trump told players. “We’ll just have some fun, we have medals for you guys. And we have to — I must tell you — we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that,” the president said, chuckling. The players laughed. “I do believe I probably would be impeached [if I didn’t],” Trump continued.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 36 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

[enragement sets in]

YOU’VE ALREADY BEEN IMPEACHED TWICE!!!

He already has the record.

Him mocking anyone is so surreal. Its like the old darkstalkers game where the creature from the black lagoons insult was freak.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 5 points 11 hours ago

Him mocking anyone is so surreal.

Mockery and punching down is what he thinks is being funny.

[–] Atropos@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago

Being mocked by this poor excuse for a human is a badge of hono.
