Surely the deeply religious Chris Pratt doesn't have any problematic views on gay people. The same Chris Pratt who has worn a Three Percenter hat, a known white supremacist org that his brother is a part of.
Nintendo can fuck off with this ploy. They've sued the living shit out of anyone and everyone, including people just opshop selling retro Nintendo games and consoles; leading to hatred and disgust by, once avid, Nintendo gamers and fans; and now, suddenly, they love the gays? Fuck that lie up their money shitting shitter hole!
I get it, I also agree Nintendo is an awful, greedy corporation that happens to make fun games from time to time. However, this is a pretty big deal in Japan. For a company to openly support a still quite socially, culturally taboo topic there, is pretty crazy to see.
Anyway, I guess my point is, if they're condoning and supporting the advancement of civil rights for a stigmatized demographic, I think that's important, even if the company is still a shitty, greedy husk.
They're only doing this because public opinion has already shifted towards acceptance of LGBT people.
True. Rainbow capitalism is still capitalism and only done to get more money, BUT look at the US right now and how much it sucks for the LGBTQI+ community. If the decision is between rainbow capitalism and capitalism that dosn't even pretend to care, rainbow capitalism is the better choice.
Virtue signalling is still better than doing nothing.

It's nice to see a household-name company standing up to a stupid conservative stance taken by their government, especially as a USian who was a nintendo kid.
It doesn't make the soulless corporation GOOD (and I see they are getting the hate they're due) but it's still nice to see.
Kinda like when Chick-fil-A corporate stood behind the Utah location that had pride flags.
It doesn't absolve them, but it's a good step forward.

Nintendo is one of the most aggressively greedy, anti-consumer, capitalist companies on the planet. Don’t be fooled by their no-effort rainbow capitalism. They would throw us all under the bus in an instant if it benefitted them financially.
yea my thoughts, if they stated this, they previously did some data crunching to see that their Japanese target audience tend to be more progressive than average Japanese and decided this would result in a net financial gain.
