Why is everybody so hung up on where people are from? Shouldn't a person's actions matter a lot more than where they were born?

[–] Coldcell@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago

Oh look, a billionaire baby boomer who thinks immigrants are the problem.

Can we get his head sized for a basket please?

[–] myrmidex@belgae.social 53 points 1 day ago (5 children)

That first paragraph oozes irony.

Britain has been "colonised" by immigrants, who are draining resources from the state, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of the country's richest and most influential men, has told Sky News.

and he has paid his tax right? right?

[–] mjr@infosec.pub 38 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Officially, he lives abroad, so doesn't pay taxes here, so can't truly be said to be " of this country ". I suggest we bar him.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago

So, he’s an immigrant.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

But he is ENTITLED to his wealth, he is obviously entitled to exploit others and to be extremely privileged.
You know that because he is rich, he is a higher class of being, a class that needs to be protected because it's only fair that some people have all the privileges.

/s (just in case)

Can we strip him naked and drop him in the middle of India for funsies?

[–] astraeus@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

you just know so many people will take it at face value without putting 2+2 together too

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

one of the country's richest and most influential men

Why does he look like a haggard middle manager?

[–] dunestorm@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

I bet he doesn’t pay any fucking tax, unlike legal citizens to this country, no matter their origin…

He’s part of the problem, if all big companies and millionaires, billionaires paid tax, everything would be so much better funded that we’d be living in a parallel utopia.

Funny because the UK colonized half the fucking planet just for tea and curry.

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Statistically speaking the UK can shut the fuck up about being colonized.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 19 points 1 day ago

Last time they kept out immigrants, with Brexit, some industries immediately ran into problems. Maybe if they'd start talking wage increase and free training before closing borders they'd make sense, but that's probably an even bigger "resource drain from the state" according to that guy.

Doesn't he love in Morocco for tax reasons

[–] sneakyninjapants@sh.itjust.works 2 points 23 hours ago

Who doesn't love in Morocco really?

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Shatcliffe.

[–] MonsterMonster@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does that include the thirteen overseas players in the Manchester United squad?

[–] 9488fcea02a9@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

And 80% of his cycling team

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Those pesky Danes and Romans!

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And not to mention those goddamned Anglo-Saxons.

[–] ftmpch@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

"WHAT'S WRONG WITH JUST WORSHIPPING A TREE?!!"

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yes I bet they have massive problems with Vikings roaming the streets and pillaging everything, as has always been their habit.

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

A racist "leader," with his mind firmly entrenched in the disgraceful ancestry of British imperialism.

Remember, folks: the poor, the marginalized people and the refugees are not our enemies.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Some people just can't get over the imperial mind set. And also when he says immigrats he %100 means non white immigrants lol.

UK, take note of what is happening in the USA and don't let it happen to you.

[–] Fermion@mander.xyz 5 points 23 hours ago

Not just the UK. There is a coordinated push to use nationalism to replace democracy with oligarchy all across the world right now. The US is simply the most obvious example due to the orange one lacking any semblance of subtlety.

People need to watch for and oppose media consolidation, anti-immigrant rhetoric, ballooning law enforcement spending, surveillance and online id requirements. These are all hallmarks of groups aiming to install an authoritarian regime.

[–] tirateimas@lemmy.pt 4 points 1 day ago

I thought they solved the situation with Brexit. Oh well...

[–] susi7802@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

[nasal voice over intercom] Has patient number 13 reveived his sedatives yet?

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Ironically, due to brexit, instead of European immigrants, most come from Nigeria. Which is worse for no-one except the racist knobheads that pushed for brexit who ended up with people with more melanin in their skin.

[–] _Nico198X_@europe.pub 1 points 1 day ago

i'm tired, boss
