Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 4 points 9 hours ago

Piracy. You wouldn't download a woman on a horse handing out chocolate.

[–] TotallyNotSpezUpload@startrek.website 86 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Giving a meal? A sweet chocolate meal?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 26 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

THIS MAN TOUCHED MY PENIS!

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 18 hours ago

(said the horse)

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

There do tend to be regulations on where you can ride a horse and I guess she might need a permit if it was deemed a performance?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

As far as I can tell, a horse could either be regulated as a vehicle, or as a pet. If it's a vehicle, it has to follow all the same traffic laws as cars, which means it's not allowed to leave the roadway to enter the station. If it's a pet, it has to "be in a bag or other container and carried in a way that doesn't annoy other riders."

what about emotional support horses?

You can't enjoy life here.

[–] derry@midwest.social 12 points 23 hours ago

Once more into the breach!

This is the kind of crazy where I don't wanna fix her, I want her to fix me.

[–] Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Insert some internal thoughts about overly sexualized pirate cosplay and booty.

Finally a whack-a-doodle that DIDN'T shoot a bunch of people. Seems pretty harmless to me. I mean receiving a chocolate coin is not likely to make your day WORSE. Am I right?

[–] madjo@piefed.social 47 points 23 hours ago

I'd propose on the spot

The horse had to jump the turnstyle. IIRC the punishment for that in the US is death

[–] hector@lemmy.today 2 points 9 hours ago

Broken windows theory, if they let turnstile jumping go unpunished, those same people will remain unexecuted by the state. For public safety summary executions are carried out.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 54 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Riding a horse, that are pretty easy to spook, through a confined space with a high density of people to be trampled, probably wasn't the wisest part of the plan.

It's still a vibe though and I love her for it.

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Yeah, it only takes one asshole to throw some trash at the horse and a kid standing too close for this whole thing to go terribly wrong.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 19 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Any horse capable of being led into a damn subway station is probably fine.

Makes me wonder if the NYPD ever brought their horses in there.

Lots of gigantic rats though.

You are NYC? I hear a lot of people love you.

3 minutes of absolute peak cinema I just watched, thank you

[–] Aralakh@lemmy.ca 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Is this Leon or am I thinking of the wrong movie?

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Killer song, and this is way better than the official music video. Any idea of the original movie the clips are from?

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072285/?fc=1%3Bft%3D1

David Dean Burkhart is the editor/ producer of the video, and is an old-school GOAT in the video space.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh yeah, definitely, the guy behind the SAINT PEPSI - Cherry Pepsi video, that was my first exposure to his stuff.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

💯

I've made a couple mash-ups, and they're a huge influence.
