While preliminary reports of the NFL show’s ratings indicate Bad Bunny drew the most live viewers of any Super Bowl halftime show in history, according to CBS News, with over 135 million, Turning Points USA, the late Charlie Kirk’s organization, celebrated just 6 million viewers across its various channels on Sunday night.

“Kid Rock”? I thought it was called Epstein Island

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 4 points 16 hours ago

Why is he still called "Kid" Rock anyway? Isn't he 55, looking like he's 75? He's Old Man Rock now.

The only kid thing about him is his dress sense, but I recently saw a photo of him in a hat that actually fit, and yes, he's an old man now.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 24 points 23 hours ago

I grew up in a strict Christian family. I would bet that every single one of the kids forced to watch the Kid Rock special watched Bad Bunny once they were away from their parents. Even if they didn't like Bad Bunny before, or after, it would have convinced them that it was something that they should see.

The “All American Halftime Show” headliner, on the other hand, came under fire last week when his sexualized comments about the then-14-year-old Olsen twins resurfaced, as well as the gross 2001 lyrics from his song “Cool, Daddy, Cool,” in which he sings, “Young ladies, young ladies, I like ’em underage, see,” and “Some say that’s statutory, but I say it’s mandatory.”

What “celebrating faith family and freedom” looks like to conservatives.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 13 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

I guess that makes him Kid Gravel.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)
[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

And finally just Bobby Ritchie

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

More like Bobby Reich

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Fun fact: kid rock is the same age as Ricky Martin.

[–] ThuggyG@piefed.ca 100 points 1 day ago (3 children)

What made the halftime show so great was that it was a celebration of something Bad Bunny actually cared about. He cared enough to want to share with you the lovely little things about his culture that make it special.

I don’t know what Kid Rock loves or cares about or wants to share (I actually have one idea but it’s gross). I do know what he hates. Nobody wants to hang out with an asshole I’d much rather go for good vibes with a language barrier.

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 62 points 1 day ago (2 children)

“Young ladies, young ladies, I like ’em underage, see,” and “Some say that’s statutory, but I say it’s mandatory.” --Kid Rock

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 day ago

Technically it was his pedophile buddy Joe-C who said it's mandatory. Kid Rock did in fact say that he likes underage young ladies tho. Also you can't forget "I got kids I've never seen and their momma's seventeen," outright singing about not just being attracted to children, but having had raped them

[–] ThuggyG@piefed.ca 17 points 1 day ago

so fucking gross

[–] assembly@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

While I am not a big fan of the music style, I thought the visuals and dancing were incredible. I was just awestruck at the level of prep the must have put in to get that performance to that level. They had street scenes, rural scenes, all at the same time and live. It all flowed so well, I thought it was such an incredible performance without actually being a fan of the music genre. That to me is the mark of an amazing performance.

[–] SpaceCrystal@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I 100% agree with you, but when it comes to Kid Rock, he’s a talentless nobody. The only thing I remember him for is “All Summer Long,” & that beat of the song that he plagiarized was from both “Werewolves of London” by Warren Zevon & “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don't know anyone that can name a kid rock song. The entire planet is having parties listening to all type of great music and americans conservative are stuck with this loser lol.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 14 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

There was Bawitdaba in 1999, and the song that I always think is going to be Werewolves of London and get mad when it isn't. That's all I know.

[–] MunkyNutts@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

All Summer Long fucking sucks shit. This guy breaks it down why it does, https://youtu.be/u8FAbjjB48A

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I can't name that first one. It's too stupid to pronounce.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Anyone who listened to rock radio in the year 2000 would recognize it. Hit Billboard's top 10, 41 and 32 in the UK and Scotland, it even did decently in Germany peaking at 84 per GfK. None of this is to say that it's particularly good but it damn well was popular. (And looking this up I am reminded that the second hit on that album was "Cowboy" which also did numbers in the US and Europe)

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

i think we're speaking past each other. the name is just too stupid to pronounce. call it Jeremy instead of bawitshit or whatever

[–] washbasin@sh.itjust.works 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

He had a solid run on TRL. I'm ashamed to admit I know more than one of his songs as a result. And I even liked it. Middle School is a helluva drug.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The crazy thing is he used to be a socially progressive guy for years before he drank the maga flavor aide.

[–] washbasin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

That actually makes me feel better about my past self. Thank you!

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Well he did have that one song that he straight up admits to being a pedo though

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Kid rock needs to change his stage name. I watched a 30sec cut of their show. And woof. That dude is aging like milk. Looks 70.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago

Apparently he's 55, but conservatism ages you like nothing else

[–] phar@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

He was actually horribly ugly before, too

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 21 hours ago

he should lay off the bud light, he ages you like 20 years.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 54 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I’d much rather listen to songs in Spanish (a language I don’t understand) than any song about how great Kid Rock thinks he is and all of his songs are about that.

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Conservatives: "I can't understand this guy can't they get someone that speaks English?"
Also conservatives: "BAW WIT DA BAW DA BANG DA DANG DIGGY DIGGY"

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I always chuckled over people liking that song while hating on Mm Bop.

I didn't understand a word he said, but it was still a good show. Hell of a lot better than the game itself.

[–] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago

I don’t understand Spanish, but i understood perfectly the visuals, the historical context, the love, acceptance, and the message.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Knowing the language isn't necessary for enjoying the music, in my opinion. There's plenty of "world music" (music outside my own country/language) that is just that. And I'm finding I like it more and more!

Here's a great example I found over the years. There is a song in the US called "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". It's alright, but the original version is from Africa. "Mbube" is the African name of the song. The versions I have heard are so much better than the English language version. The ones I know of are by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Miriam Makeba.

Finally picked up on it when I looked up the intro music to Coming to America!

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Gran Turismo actually has introduced me to a TON of great world music.

[–] spamfajitas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Another example that might be good is Baba Yetu, the Grammy-winning theme song from the game Civilization 4. Its lyrics are probably better known to people as the Lord's Prayer, just translated into Swahili.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago

It was superb; one of the best I've seen. With reverence to Prince, ofc.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

For what it's worth, I'm a native Spanish speaker and can barely understand Bad Bunny sometimes. It's the Puerto Rican accent, they don't pronounce the letter S

(Not to say anything of his music, I love the song he did with Gorillaz)

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Six million idiots deep enough in the Republican MAGA Nazi shit. Every one is one too many.

Honestly, stop legitimizing the masturbatory conservative "counter" to halftime. It's the same thing that Fox News did to legitimize wacko conservative beliefs starting in the 90s. Presenting fringe elements directly in comparison to legitimate ones only bleeds legitimacy onto the fringe.

Yet the fascists control the country

Edit: just a video of what I'm talking about bellow: https://cdn.social.linux.pizza/system/media_attachments/files/116/041/790/466/173/467/original/5b9aac6018a7baf3.mp4

I mean, good for him, great that so many people, pretty much half the fucking population supports him, and a tiny amount supports the fascists.

With that said, where are these Americanswhen the protests are happening? Has any of you Americans looked at what is happening in Milan? That is for ice too, and adjusted for size, it's been a hundred times the response in the USA. ICE doesn't round up italians, but look at those protests!

In the US there has been nothing. Sorry, not sorry, fuck your "no kings" protests, those were nothing and they were laughingly ignored. Why? HELLOOOOO, THESE ARE FASCISTS, THEY DONT GIVE A FUCK.

People are being abducted from the streets by thugs AND YOU LET THEM. How about with the next attempt you surround ice with thousands of people. Armed people. Don't be aggressive, but protest and do NOT allow them to walkmorndrove away with the victims.

Yes, I understand that people are walking a very fine tightrope here, nobody wants a civil war, but these fuckers are pushing for civil war, whether you like it or not. I'm not saying to start a war, but I'm saying that you need to STAND YOUR FUCKING GROUND. DO JOT LET THEM ABDUCT A SINGLE INNOCENT PERSON MORE.

Europeans can do this, Americans can do this. The Americans are always the ones moaning about the heroes who will not leave a man behind, wlbut you're leaving fucking men women and children behind. BE AMERICAN, FFS, STAND UP ALREADY

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 day ago

Asking your Average Joe American to fire up the old idiot box to watch bad bunny, likely already up and running for the game, is an infinitely easier ask than risk your job and possibly your life to fight fascists in the streets.

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment, but maybe dial in the perspective a bit. Those Italians have been fighting fascism at home for a very long time, it’s not like the blood fueds simply ended with the death of Mussolini.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 22 hours ago

Every single person I watched the Super Bowl with has also gone to the protests with me.

[–] madjo@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everything that turning point does is purely performative… there’s no value behiind it.

[–] hovercat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Oh, there's loads of value to it. Merch sales, ticket sales, speaking fees, book deals, etc

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Erica Kirk was also on that call joyously celebrating the 250 million that her husband's death earned
