US Vice President JD Vance endured a chorus of “boos” as US athletes began their march at the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, after Israeli athletes faced the same unwarm welcome.

It's not like we can actually do anything about them. Booing at least makes us feel good for a brief moment.

People are allowed to vent, and it is healthy to do so.

Why is israel allowed to play but not russia again?

[–] KiloGex@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Russia was caught doping. It has nothing to do with politics.

Because Israel and USA are buddies

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 1 points 14 hours ago

I'm surprised they are even in it, given that they aren't exactly known for their "wintry" climate. I guess it's like the Jamaican bobsledding team.

[–] KiloGex@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago

We deserve it.

Who the fuck thinks a stern warning will prevent fans and visitors from booing evil scumbags. The IOC are out of touch, out of date and out of ideas

[–] AzuranAurora@piefed.ca 5 points 20 hours ago

Ya love to see it!

It was edited out.

Hans? Are we the baddies?

Good. I hope he is made unwelcome everywhere he goes for the rest of his life.

"Stern warning".

Booo! Oh wait, you're serious, let me boo even harder.

BOOOOOOOOO!

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

“Why won’t the stern warning stop the booing? It will surely stop the fascists.”

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Perhaps they should try a strongly worded letter next time? I hear that does wonders.

This is what I like to hear.

The the international Olympics committee is an absolute joke. They claim they don't want to be political and that's why Israel is allowed to compete and expect not to get backlash.

They have to be taking bribes, that's the only reason they would be making these otherwise insane decisions.

Heartwarming

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Did he even say "thank you"?

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So? They are still allowed to participate.
And none of the EU or other vassal states will do anything against them, despite what the population wants or thinks.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

I think they should treat US athletes like the did clean Russian athletes.

Allow them to compete, but not as representatives of the US.

If greet we must, then this is how we must greet Nazis and Zionists.

It doesn't make up for genocide and attacking immigrants, but at least the war criminals' loss of narrative is out in the open.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 61 points 1 day ago

Guess they kept people from bringing rotten fruit and vegetables in to throw at him.

[–] Lanske@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Fuck fascists!

Going to watch the opening ceremony when I get home. I'm glad that it sounds like the boos were directed at JD Vance instead of the athletes. Fuck that guy. I don't know what he expected to happen. That would suck to be training to be a top-tier athlete and your country does something shitty and you get boo'd for it.

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I’m watching it on delay right now, and they just came in. The athletes got a great cheer, but that quickly switched to boos when they showed him. It was perfectly done.

Just Dumb's oligarch convoy required 14 airplanes and 100 vehicles. WTF, how much did that shit cost?

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump's reaction. The "Oooo" face is funny. Trump fucking hates Vance. You can tell.

"He doesn't get boo'd in this country."

X (Doubt)

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 15 points 1 day ago

Its quite cold out right now, but those boos just warmed me right up. I'm surprised he didnt try to have Usha stay home so he could take Erikkka though.

"Are they saying 'Boo' or 'Booance?'"

Lucky it was just "boo"

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I watched a video. I couldn't hear them. I Just had to take the anouncer's word.

AWESOME, but the attendees should not have attended. Would have made a bigger statement, tons, if not all, of seats empty.
