To reject idealism is not to reject the power of ideas but to recognize their proper place. Ideas matter, but they do not exist in a vacuum; they are born of material conditions and find their purpose in changing those conditions. This is not a denial of the mind’s creativity but an affirmation of its responsibility.

From the fields worked by the enslaved to the factories organized by labor, the true history of America is a history of class struggle. Our past victories like the eight-hour workday, livable wages, safety nets, unions, and social security were not gifts from above, they were gains won through collective action, forcibly wrested from a capitalist class that stood against us every step of the way. These hard earned gains built a foundation of prosperity that lifted millions of Americans up for decades.

But as U.S capital matured and globalized to maximize profit, it turned on its domestic workers with a relentless drive to crush unions, suppress wages, and offshore production. This systematically dismantled the post-war compromise, resulting in a race to the bottom that has reshaped American society through the degradation of our jobs, the erosion of our communities, and the upward transfer of wealth from the many to the few.

“This is a massive and unprecedented presidential plunder of the American people,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin.

Although the reactionary comments are misleading, please be aware that this is a liberal instance. The goal is to allow good faith discussion so we can educate and learn from each other. We do not want this community to become an ideological echo chamber. Ultimately, the event (from ten years ago) being discussed in the comments has diminished relevance to the politics of today. But it is a good starting point for a discussion about media literacy, opportunism and tailism; so I think it is valuable. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Found an article that might be useful reading for this thread:

What is the united front? It is the organizational expression of a broad unity of action by diverse forces against a common enemy. The purpose of the united front, the reason for its existence, is to unite the many to defeat the few.

And this:

“We must use Marxism, which is positive in spirit, to overcome liberalism, which is negative. A Communist should have largeness of mind and he should be staunch and active, looking upon the interests of the revolution as his very life and subordinating his personal interests to those of the revolution; always and everywhere he should adhere to principle and wage a tireless struggle against all incorrect ideas and actions, so as to consolidate the collective life of the Party and strengthen the ties between the Party and the masses; he should be more concerned about the Party and the masses than about any private person, and more concerned about others than about himself.

Good thing I’m not campaigning for office, or that mistake would disqualify me.

My mistake. Not sure why the word search didn’t find it before. I’ll restore the original comment. I’ll forgive the self-righteous indignation because I can understand why having your memory questioned is frustrating.

The people in Maine don’t seem to care about Platner’s past, and their opinions are the only ones that matter.

We spent 4 days traveling the entire state of Maine with Graham Platner to find out if he can win.

Along the way we sat him down with Republicans and Independents.

One voter told us: "We're so tired of the establishment, and Maine is a very anti-establishment state."
