A system with a free media, an independent judiciary, and internal checks and balances makes it unlikely that tankies would be able to consolidate power and make a country autocratic, even if they won a round of elections. We're more or less seeing the right-wing version of that happening in the US, where Trump clearly would love to be a dictator, but federalism, the courts, and to a lesser extent Congress have slowed him down and presented challenges that make it harder for him to succeed in his effort.

These people can't be real. I refuse to believe anyone could be this completely detached from reality.

internal checks and balances

This person will be one of the last libs left after societal collapse.

I absolutely believe these people are real..the difference is they're writing these kinds of posts from the comfort of their gated communities in a demographically county in Missouri

I'm terminally online but I'm glad I'm not this terminally online at least. But at least the liberals are trying to speedrun this century's version of Nazi Germany by advocating of suppressing socialism in favor of fascism. I was worried it was gonna take longer.

Correct. Bourgeois democracy suppresses all forms of democracy, including bourgeois democracy

Me while Gestapo are escorting me to Auschwitz-Birkenau: "Those damn commies are up to something! Better keep an eye on them officer, Sir."

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago

I'll take "what is America" for 500 points

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 day ago

Let the fascists take power and supress democratic freedoms to own the tankies 🤓

[–] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago

Fascists: Running around doing all the fascism in a fascist ways, faschistically.

Liberals: "We need to talk about the commies!"

Reinventing fascism from first principal

Liberals are roleplaying having ideological decisions to feel better about the descent into fascism. As if what they want or thought was right matters at all to their own system lol

[–] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 4 points 22 hours ago

That's exactly what this is...justifying their lack of control to themselves by grounding it in a cause they perceive as just.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Even in their hypothetical scenarios the only way the see a communist government coming into power is through thevote

The funny thing is that following their assumption that the communists are popular enough to win an election you'd think that would also mean that if they decided to revolt against an ~~authoritarian~~(ugh) fascist government they would also have enough popular support for using force to take power as well.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

Liberals believe that if they ban communism then all communists instantly get vaporized into the ether and disappear forever. Their conception of the law is indistinguishable from magic.

The Democrats: "They'll give everybody housing!"

There's a quick chant of "How we gonna pay for it!" And some mild booing from the crowd.

The Democrats: "They'll give everybody healthcare!"

There's a bit more booing and some "How we gonna pay for it!" grumbling.

The Democrats: "They'll clear out the fascists. And then logic, fact, reason, and science will be used to make decisions!"

The crowd is confused now. People are openly saying "How is that bad? It's what we want." And "If they can pay for the healthcare and the housing - isn't that good?"

The Democrats: "They'll abolish ICE!"

There's a palpable silence and then the crowd starts booing the Democrats.

I know it's 100% unrealistic. I wanted to write something positive for a change.

Booking: an erudite version of stoning

Ah, so that's what pigs mean when they threaten to throw the book at you.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Oops. But I'll try to use that next time in a Klob thread.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What's better, when I do authoritarianism or when I accuse you of doing authoritarianism?

Both of course.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

This is basically bait on the part of OOP, who is a demsoc "tankie" in so many words

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago

Damn imagine if you asked really hard questions about whether those liberal governments used democracy to come into being

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago
